I'm looking at buying some AAA balsa for a kit I'm building. They have AAA Balsa Sheets and AAA 4-6 lb. balsa sheets listed. What's the difference? I see that the 4-6 lbs. sheets are more expensive, but they don't say what the difference is and I've never run in to this before. The business I'm looking at is: http://www.lonestar-models.com/

A grade balsa is straight grain cut. The grain runs straight with the sheeting or piece. Its the nicest grade of balsa. The difference in grades is determined by the grain in relationship to the cut piece, some may have the grain at a 45 degree angle to the sheet or more or less, this is usually B or C grade. 4-6lb is the weight of a cubic 1 foot sq. 4-6 pound stock is the lightest grade and the hardest to get which lends the higher cost. 8-10lb stock is less expensive. This is a pre school explaination but you can gather the idea of this.. Buzz

i think you are talkin lonestar? the AAA is the standard balsa they sell i wish it was all straight grain.. i just got 120 sheets of 1/16x3x42 and i had to pull 14 sheets out that were unussable.. and that is not careing about the weight.. the 4-6 is contest balsa that they hand sort.. and the regular AAA is 6-1k ton..JK spaz |
