I have an Aeroworks Yak 54, 50cc on it's way, Any sugestions about the build and setup will be greatly appreciated. I have a DA 50 for power and wondering what prop to use I am thinking of Hitec 5645 servos for the ailerons and elevator, (because I have them) these servos are rated at 165 Oz./6v. this is 15 oz. lower than Aeroworks recommends. Not sure if this should be a concern or not?? I have a 5985 for the rudder and a 3010 for the throttle. Power will be supplied to the RX by a Fromeco 2400Mha pack with regulator. The electronic ignition will be powered by a 1500Mha Nmh. Seems all the supplied hardware is good stuff, anything to upgrade here?? Am looking forward to getting this bird in the air. Look forward to comments/suggestions. Bert

| Bert just recently finish an aw extra 260 50cc. Great plane hard ware seems really good. You may want to buy carbon stab and wing tubs though. Aw is a little heavy for 85 inchers but they build incredibly fast. Here’s the bad news though the servos you plan to use will work but not if you plan on hucking. They wont have the power for those big control surfaces. If you don’t have enough torque this can cause flutter and ultimately you may lose your plane. This is the setup I have used for all my 30 percents and my buddies planes Hitec ( 5245mg for throttle ) (5985mg for ailerons and elevator ) (5955tg for rudder) 5955 has 330 oz of torque. To sustain high alpha Knife edge you need power. I also used fromco regulators and switches with smartfly ignition cut off and 2100 thunder power lipos for batteries. jr also has slop in them and are pricey as you have seen.imo they arn't any big advantage over any other name brand servo.get the hs 5985's and you will be happy

The 5645's will work fine if you're on a tight budget. I've got an old EF 87" Yak that I use for beating around and it's been flying with 5645's on the ailerons and elevators for years (I'm the 2nd owner). I am NOT friendly to that plane as it's strictly a beater and I've never had a problem with them. My main complaint is the 5645's are slooowwwww. If it's in your budget, definitely get some better servos, but they will work in a bind. I have a 5945 on the rudder (same ratings as the 5985) and it's more than enough to do KE loops, etc.. As for the JR servos, they're 'better' if you like JR. They're good servos that go for a premium and are backed by great service. You'll need that service, though, as the 84/8611's eat up gears faster than a fat kid eats cake. The 5955's are superior in my opinion and the titanium gears will almost never wear. For the prop, break it in on a 22x8. You can try a 23x8 once you've got some time on the engine, but I prefer the 22 on my Yak. If yours ends up over 16lbs you'll probably want to stick with a 22x8, at least for 3D. The 3010 on the throttle is fine, but my experience with the 3010 is they don't center or end-point for crap - very imprecise (maybe I had a bad one..). It may make your idle inconsistent. The single 2400 in the RX will be fine, but I'd recommend running 2 for redundancy and increased run time. I ran dual 2400's on a 50cc Edge and could fly all weekend on a single charge - at least 15-16 flights. I went down to 1 for weight and ended up only being able to get about 6 flights before recharging. Hope this helps! |

Jr seem to be no better than hitec. The new 5955tg and 5985 mg have brass bushing in the servo case. this helps prevent gear sloping were 5945 do not. If were building a monster i wuold say jr 8711a (400oz of torque) but 5955 and 5985 is more than enough for a 50cc. You never have to worry when you slam in to awall or vilent blender are my servos going to hold. Stick with 22x8 prop for the first five gallons then start experamenting. Me I like 22x8 has fast spool up which great for 3d.

I have all 5955s on my 50CC yak and have used JR 8611s and 8411s. the gears on the Hitec5955s are as tight after wringing them out as they were in the beginning, where the 8611s or the 8411s would have had slop. these are expensive, yea, but worth the cost--the plane flies like a foamy and it has absolutely ZERO slop in the gears. I was surprised, since i'm used to all MG servos to have alittle slop out of the box, but these things are tight. i'd def. recommend them

Great info, I'm checking out the specs on these different servos and will get something ordered. Should have been clearer about the prop, the DA50 is broke in, I've used NX and Xoar props and was wondering about other brands. Any comments on this airframe??? Bert

They Fly Great ! just keep it light. I cut out the flore and dash on mine. it was built up and painted with flake stone. heavy canopy but looks good.

My AW 50cc Yak has 5985's all around and menz 22x8 prop. Everything seems so far so good. I have JR 6v 4500mah packs for rx and ignition. Are you sure 1500mah is going to be enough for a day of flying on the ignition? You might find yourself charging when you could be flying. I like to be able to put 12-15 flights in without worrying about batteries. I'm also using the Equalizer II on the elevators and ailerons with the ignition cutoff. Everything is hunky-dory. Post some pics!

5645 may on the long run develop sloping as well a centering problem, 5985 is a better choice as well as the Futaba S9452
