| Electric Hippy ![]() | I dont have the time to build as I once had and have found that size doesnt change the time required to scratch up a plane a lot. I have a considerable wad of carbon fibre and carbon/kevlar mat.Can you see where I am going? I know they build gliders and racers out of carbon and dont have many problems. I have drawn up plans for the plug and will eventually build one out of glass at least. Can anyone envisage or know of problems that a 145" bird made out of carbon can present? |

| Bad-ass Super Contributer! ![]() | Now, this is going to be interesting!!! ![]() ![]() Sorry I can't offer any advice as composite building is a technique which I'm pretty much ignorant yet. Stilll got gobs to learn about it....

| Bad-ass Super Contributer! ![]() | Yeah, I also heard about that. Seems like 2.4GHz signals have a hard time going through carbon fiber structures... ![]()

| Gettin' Lower! ![]() | ANY electromagnetic wave will have trouble penetrating any type of conductive material (carbon). For either system you'll have to have external antennas that are postioned to ensure line-of sight in any aircraft orientation.

| Patriotic Liberal ![]() | Take a look at this: http://www.compositesworld.com/hpc/issues/2004/July/511 36 foot (11 meters) wing with an empty weight of 155 pounds. Brain McLean work/worked there (not sure if he still does). He was well known in the RC slope soaring world for making some of the faster racers around.

| Electric Hippy ![]() | Thanks for the links guys, I should know better about the search function. I am planning an electric setup, which will add to the radio woes. A SHV setup with 10,000+watts. That way I should easily be able to cut airframe weight in half. |
