Default New to giant scale!

My name is Justin and im new to giant scale aircraft. I just purchased a hangar 9 extra 260 27% and i will be putting a saito 220 in it. Like most nitro plane you just have your servos, receiver battery on off switch and go. What kind of electronics do i need to use with large scale aircraft? So of these build threads have all these fancy electronics in them and i have no idea what they are. Can someone please help me!!!!

Justin

Justin, with that size plane you will need servos that have around 100 in. oz. of torque. One for each aileron, each elevator half and maybe one a bit stronger for the rudder. A good 1400mah battery or a little larger since there will be more servos working at once than in your smaller planes. Use good push rods and clevises or ball link connectors. All the rest of you set up should be pretty much what you are used to.

my set up with the h9 27% was hitec 5625mg on all surfaces, 1700mah 4 cell nicd and std futaba 3001 on throttle. perfect with a moki 180. Simple, no need for expanders, match boxes etc on a plane this size.

I would say go with Hitec 5955 on the Rudder and 5645 or 5985 all over. With those servos you can protect your invetsment all the way till the 40%

Your engine will be fine. I would suggest Hitec 5985's then you can use them if you decide to go bigger. If your using the DX7 I would use a Lipo battery but I would on this plane anyway. Gives you more flight time during the day. But this is just my .02

Trust me, you are staying unless your wife threatened to raid your fleet

I think im fine on the servos and everything. Im more concerned on what electronics i need other than servos such as whats a matchbox ( previously i have just used y harness reverser) should i run 6 volt nimh batteries instead a 7.4 lipo and running it through a regulator? i am also using evolution 45 now instead of the saito 220 for gas vs nitro prices.

Hey Justin,
If you are using Futaba 12 FG/Z or 14MZ then the 5411 receiver is enough for your setup, no need for matchboxes. Else then this if you are limited with receiver's channels the Hitecs are programmable so you can program separately and use only a Y-harness in this case. If weight is no issue get the Lipo with reg setup, best even get Fromeco Li-ion with Reg.
What is your input on the EVO engines ?
