Ben i have seen one rip the gear out because of that. Please make sure you have some good servos on the tail so this doesn't happen to you...

Benji, Issue has been solved a long time ago. The Super Extra is a solid mount. Any of the sales reps can help you and fill you in on the whole story. I know of a couple guys flying the snot oout of them with no issues.

Benji, Are you looking at the old style SX (with the 2 position blade spar type wing) or the new style with a wing tube? I haven't heard of any new style SX's with flutter problems, but it was a problem on the older style. I don't know if Comp ARF made changes to eleminate the problem or if the reps / customers just figured out how to cure it. I have the old style SX and have had no problems with flutter as long as you use quality hardware (some, er.. most of the hardware that comes with the kit should be tossed in the trash), eleminate the slop in the elevator hinge line by replacing the soft aluminum tube and adding bushings or bearings, and if your planning to use EXTREME throws, use 4 elevator servos to be on the safe side (I use 4 8611A's). This may sound complicated, but it's not. Easy stuf to do while assembling the plane that will ensure you have a long lasting plane that flies well. If you need any help with any of that stuff, hit me up, I'll be happy to pass on my experiences with the plane. Kev |

I have the 3.1 old style, 1 servo 8611 per avavator , also have ball bearings and a carbon rod, the reps dont like this set up but it works ok for me ,no flutter. Hang low with a Mojo.........

Yeah I will have to consider on using two jr 8611, on each elevator, but how can you put four servos per elevator? thats kinda dificult, hey Kev, I sent you a PM, to ask you a few questions, thanks Biff, I will contact comp arf too. thanks guys.

it doesnt matter what aircraft you buy. if it has slop in any of the linkages or control surfaces it will flutter, some times to the point of destruction! aerowiz |

Benji, I replied to your pm. Agree, getting rid of the slop is a MUST! Also know a few guys flying this plane with one servo per elevator, but none of them have maximum throws. If you want to run only one servo per elevator, eleminate all the slop you possibly can, static balance the elevators by adding lead in the balance tab leading edge, and start off conservative with the throws and work your way up. Sealing this elevator is not an issue or an option, the elvator leading edge is recessed into the stab trailing edge. Benji, There are provisions built into the stabs for the 4 servo set up, it's a bit of a pain and you can't trust the measurements in the manual. If and when you get one let me know and I'll give you speciffic numbers on where to cut your slots to avoid a slot in the wrong spot. Kev |

| you can also mass balance the elevators, this will also help. I only run 1 JR 8611 per half on my comp Arf 44% Giles with the elevators fully mass balanced, no sign of flutter.

I think you should be OK even with the older version if you be careful during the build. I have flown one (blade spar version) with 4 servos on the elevators, no sign of flutter or much slop. Best flying airplane I have flown to date. If I was to build one, I would use 4 servos on the elevator also, but that's just me. Plane is on my list of must haves up there with the Dalton. ![]() Brandon |
