Question DIETRICH PERFORMANCE AIRCRAFT

Anyone have any experience with Dietrich Performance Aircraft planes? The one I am possibly looking towards is the 50cc extra 260 http://dietrichaircraft.com/50ccExtr...ccExtra260.php

Have the 50cc 260 and love it. I have a DL50 on it and it came in at 16lbs 10oz. It flies great.

I have one and I really love the way it flys
The plane it self is real nice, alot of the hardware had to be replaced it was just crap
But in the end it was worth it to me

Go buy another brand.. go with a SDmodels, or TT TOC,, or wildhare,, any are better then the dietrich, every dietrich I have seen has had shotty covering and they are built loose..glue joints not good, among other stuff..

I'm waiting for the 100cc Extra. Yes I've heard the trim colors have tended to peal up. But they put too many colors on anyway. I do like the attempt Dietrich makes at making a scale looking fuse. I am done buying flat sided planes.

Thanks everyone. Keep the replies coming.I am looking for my first "large scale" and can use all the info possible. I am looking at extra 300, 260, edge 540 or a yak54. Give me the names of good manufacturers along with ones to stay away from.

the wing tube on the 50 260 looks pretty anemic to me. i was going to buy one myself, but that was a deal breaker.

HMMM were to begin on this statement?? If you have had a Dietrich plane and have dealt with Kevin and or Bill you would know that both of them are really good guys and if you had an actual issue that was a MANUFACTURER'S issue they will go out of the way to make it right. As for the list you have given I can say I have a plane from each of those companies and can tell you that they have similar issue with covering man it is in arf and made buy many hands it WILL NOT be perfect but what I can tell you about the list named it has never been nothing a covering iron would not take care of. My TT Toc 40% yak, MY wild hare suk, my 33% sd models yak all had those issue. You are buying an arf. And the climate change from overseas no matter were it comes from takes a toll on the covering. But if you time a few minutes with an iron, and heat gun those issue go away and stay away. All arf have these issue but WE as an RCer have to keep in mind we did not build them like we do with are CARDENS there for things happen shipping from China takes its toll ever SEE a plane after it sat in a hot trailer??? Enough on that statement.. Lets use are heads for more than a hat rack!! The guy asked about real issue!!

Now as far as the 50cc 260 man they are a great flying plane and would make a great first big gasser! I have a couple friends that have one and a few with the bigger planes and yes there were very minor issue with the covering but like I said above but man really all the arf do it and it takes a few minutes with the iron and you will be fine. But the Dietrich Planes are great and are good quality.. Everyone has their own opinions but know that the proof is in the pudding. They are a proven asset to the R/C arena!!!

You could not have a better choice of a plane!!

I have the 50cc with a DA 50, if you can find a better plane buy it, but I don't think you can. I used everything that came with the plane but the spinner, because I already had a Tru- Turn. Kevin treated me great and I love the plane. My friend flew it and said it flies as well as a 35 percent. You can't go wrong with this plane.

I too fly the Dietrich 260. It is my first gasser. (First gasser that took off and landed and took off again! True 1st one crashed due to not charging and then not checking battery levels ) DL50 on the nose. Very happy with the construction, trim scheme (wish I would have waited for the purple one) and flying characteristics of the plane. I receive a lot of complements on the plane about the covering, how well it flies and the power and starting ease of the DL engine.
The hardware ain't the best that's for sure but it WILL work.
Stay with the name brands, they have a reputation to up hold. And they know they will quickly end up with a bad rap if they sell a bad product. Look at all the bashing & praise on just this web site!
No matter what plane, whose plane or what ever you will have issues. You will have covering wrinkles, so what.( Hell, we will all have covering wrinkles if we live long enough.) What counts is do you like the plane? Will the supplier be there for you? Do people report it flies well. And if you can't fix the minor issues ...then you may need a different hobby cause this hobby is FULL of minor issues!
Everyone should build a few kits to learn how to build, how to repair and how to appreciate what it takes to get a plane together.
Question: Can most (I did not say "all") of the people complaining about the covering, construction, design etc. do any better building from a kit? I'll tell ya right now I don't think so. Because if they could, they would have nothing but kit built planes themselves and there would be more kit planes available.
Give me any ARF or kit or scrath built and I will find issues with it. It's so easy to knock someone else's work

Ok, I'm done now. Phew.
