Default Re: Plane for DL30?

I have an old 25% Genesis Cap 232 that used to fly like bananas with a Saito 182 twin. It needs some repairs to the area that the landing gear mounts on to, as I always lost a cylinder in flight with that motor. It is a cool airframe from Canada that went out of production after 1999. Composite fuse with foam core wings, and tail feathers. 74" wingspan, 976 Sq. inches of wing area (24 ounces per square foot), ranged between 9.75 to 10.3 lbs, and called for a 1.20 to a 1.80 fourstroke. I figure a good time to try out a DL product? Been holding out for DA to come out with a 25 to 30cc motor this whole time. I have not been following this thread as I usually claim JUNK when it comes to DL's. So what do you guys think? Do I go against what I've been claiming, and give up waiting for DA? I sure would like to see that old plane fly again. I guess I'll go back and read this thread, and see who's had good and bad luck with this motor.

If you have the dough, the new EF Extra would be killer. Gorgeous model.

I'm thinking about purchasing a DLE 30 but some of the guys at RCU have had problems with this motor dying on them at idle and when the motor is tilted at an angle. Yes, it sounds strange but it happens. No one can really figure out what the problem is....I wish they would come out with rear carb version.

Oh great, just when I was about to flip flop on my opinion of DL or DLE. I guess I'll keep waiting for DA to come out with a 30cc. ...... .... ... back to claiming that those motors are junk ... .... ...

you should check out the Syssa SAP 180:

I have one waiting for the new EF Extra, but I have heard nothing but good things about the motor.

And yes, they are American designed and manufactured.

mmmm just call jody at valleyviewrc.com and they will tell you all you need about DLE30, if you really change your opinion for just a few comments, i think you will never buy a DA then.... if you read all the opinion of dead sticks, inverted problems, 3k airplanes lost, etc. with DA engines. Just go directly with someone that can tell you whats the real deal on this engines.

Dude, all my planes have DA's in them except for one, a 3W. So it's a hard sell on the DL. With all the problems alot of people have had with them, I stay away. Just thought I would try the little one, now I find out that they cut out in a certain angle. On RCU, I was following a thread on the new 1/4 scale H9 Taylorcraft, I do have the older one with a G23. Am putting H9 floats on it and was thinking of the DL 30 for that too. Well, a couple of those guys had the same problem too. Think I'll just stay away from 'em. That SYSSA motor looks really cool. A little higher in price. I saw it at Joe Nall, Nice motor!! Anyone run it?

The Syssa is comparible in price to the DL when you factor everything the Syssa comes with(muffler, standoffs, ignition switch, etc.) I haven't run mine yet, but here is a good thread on RCU about it:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_88..._1/key_/tm.htm

Many of the engines that have shipped are still being broken in, so real data is still a month or so out...

Hey classclown, I think I'll wait to see what the Chinese will do about this problem.....wish they would come out with a rear carb version....DA is taking forever with a 25cc-30cc. Syssa 30cc looks sweet...a lil high on the price though.
