Default Jr8611 v Jr 8611a

Please advise, in the USA you fella's have had 8611, then you got a upgraded 8611a, from my understanding the 8611a had a new gear train and better torque. Out here in the outer regions of the colonies (Australia) we have had no such re-designation, was, and still is called a 8511. However we are told by the faithful JR agent, and I mean no disrespect to him, that we have the new spec servo. My question is, with the 8611 you dudes were complaining of excessive gear slop, has this been fixed with the 8611a? Personally, I am very dissatisfied with servos in my 2.6 Yak, while it is only 50 flights old, the servos are not what I would expect for the $$$$.

I have the same problem here in Africa, I also cant get a satisfactory answer from JR. The 8511 is not the same as an 8611a, in fact the speed and torque are advertised as less than the old 8611. I bought 5 8511's, only 4 flights so far so i cant say much except that they seem ok so far. I run them at 5.7 volts 'cause no-one can confirm that they can handle 6 volts. Why dont they just sell the same servos to everyone?! I think we are getting ripped!

Hi Guys,

As far as I know the only difference in 8611 and 8611a is their top case. Torque is the same. Gears are the same. The servo top case is designed to take the slop away or in some cases they would crack in the 8611 that is improved on 8611a. If you have 8611 that is still under warranty you can send them in for upgrade which I have done already. Again the torque is the same. JR claims that they under estimated the torque when they first made 8611. I hope this helps.

The 8611a has a stronger motor that puts out a little more torque then the 8611 same gears tho.

The first 8611's did not have the stronger case top but JR will up-date them with the new case top for free.

Yes the gears get slopy as well you know. SO now I am trying some of the Hitec 5955s and I am yery impressed so far.

The latest is as follows.....There is nothing wrong with the 8611 servo....In the case of high load use, or mis-matched ganged servos, or insufficient servos to handle throw-back, the 8611 servo has exhibited some gear train wear, cracked top case, and in some very unusual cases a failed motor....I have 60 of the servos and have had only one failure. However, we have incurred some gear train slop. I have sent in to JR factory for service about a dozen so far. The factory no longer furnishes replacement cases for free. If you desire an upgrade, you must pay.
I was advised by factory to periodically send in groups of servos for general service and mainteneance check....cost is about $15 USA...check on latest pricing....Their position stated to me was good insurance policy considering cost of plane and accessories....In my opinion, few know how to properly set up multiple servos, especially those that are ganged. One really needs to measure current draw at full displacement of servo to check for proper end points in each direction.....true of aerilon throws as well as rudder and elevator....good luck in your resouluton...,
V.

8511's are equivalent to the 8411's if I'm correct.

The 8411 are not the same as the 8511 , 8411 are 11Kg torque and 8511 are 15Kg of torque.

I personally have not had any problems with the 8511 but am tempted to try the Hitecs .....just a little concerned about servo lock up !

The 8611 and the 8611A are not the same servo.
The 8611 has a torque rating of 220/260 (4.8/6.0V)
The 8611A has a torque rating of 260/320 (4.8/6.0V)
The A also now has the better case top that was the upgrade for the 8611.

Guys as far as I understand the 8511 is exactly the same as the 8611. The 8511 is the servo number released for the Aisiatic market where as the 8611 is the servo number released to the european and US market. Same servo just different numbers. I dont believe the gear slop is confined to poorly ganged servos or high torque use. Everyone i know over here in Oz who uses 8511's(8611's) wheather it be as a single servo set up or a ganged servo setup,on and aerobatic plane or a scale plane all have the same issues with gear slop after vary few flights. I have had them on my 2 comp arf 2.3's and now on my 44% Comp arf Giles and have had gear slop develope very quickly, I will certainly be swapping these out and trying the new Hitechs 5955's. I love JR stuff but am just a bit pi%$ed about spending $180 a servo only to have gear slop after 20 or so flights.

Hi Mick

Following is a copy of an email from JR Propo in Japan:

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for the e-mail.

As explained, DS8611A and DS8511 is exactly same.

The new motor has a little more power than the original, but we decided to use the same spec as before.

However, Horizon checked the power by themselves and used the new spec on their catalog.

We are not going to use Horizon's spec on our products.

Please understand.

Regards/Kuyama

JR Propo

.This is quite common accros several different models of servos. My understanding is Horizon have their own part numbers so they don't have to support brown market products in the USA. (I don't blame them, I would do the same if I were in their shoes.) Given they have their own part numbers I guess they can do their own tests and rate them accordingly.

.I know this higher rating is frustrating some of the other dealers around the world. They are loosing sales because their customers are buying their servos from the USA since they believe it has a better rating when in fact the only difference is the packaging.

Howie
