Help! glitch in my ESC or somthing else

I have just finished the build on my Extreme Flight YAK 54E. The first flight ended not so good but not to bad. After just catching a tree the plane fell into tall grass, when I got to the plane only a slightly broken motor mount. Sat the transmitter down and went to unplug the battery and the motor took off on its own, shredding the motor mount and beating up the cowl. I figured this to be some sort of interference. After repairs I took the plane to my field 30 miles from the park I flew in the first time. This time the motor would shut down just for a second and come back on with out moving throttle all the way off first.

Here is the setup all new equipment:

HIMAX HC3528-0800, 450 Watt
Castle Creations Phoenix-60
APC 13X6.5
MaxAmp 3s 4000mAh battery and a Apogee Magnum 3800
Hitec Electron 6-Channel Rx
Hitec HS-65HB Servos
Futaba 6EX PCM TX

Watt meter saying about 35 to 38 amps at full throttle. On the first flight I used a old Rx I had (same kind as above) second flight I used the new Rx with a new crystal. Not sure what to try next. The Phoenix 60 is set to factory defaults. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have only been flying Electrics for less than a year.

I don't know much about electrics either but I would lean twards the speed controller being the problem. Initially my guess, and its just a guess, that the crash, which knocked the engine loose, caused some crossing of some wires when you set the plane down allowing the motor to run up and maybe overheating the speed controller. When the speed controller overheats it should shut down but I had one that kept shutting down after only 3 to 5 minutes and it was rated for 25 amp and I was only running about 10 so it should never overheat. I returned it to phoenix and they sent a new one as it was defective. Run the motor and feel the speed controller. If it seem to get unusually hot maybe that is it. Just a guess though.

I have tried running the motor up on the ground and even had a friend hold the plane up and move it around in diff. orientations to see what would happen. It would never quit and the motor, battery and esc was not even warm. I did a range check at the field but not on the motor. My next step is to call castle creations and see if I can send it in and have them run it through a diagnostics test of some kind.

Hi mate, ive had the same identical problem pretty much in my EF extra. If the ESC has a switch then that could very well be it, that was the problem on mine, the planes controls cut out just after take off, i guess because the switch was fairly free to move around the small vibrations made it do it. I wobbled the switch side to side on the ground and got the same problems. However, now i have even more of a strage problem, when i move the ailerons rapidly i get total loss of the plane and all surfaces twitch and the motor starts up. Ive got a replacement Airboss speedo, changed Rx's 3 times and cant find the problem. My last resort is to send back the Tx (ff9) for servicing as all the gear was brand spanking new. Ive also tried changing the aileron extension leads and the y lead all to no avail.

no switch on the ESC, it acts more like a TX or RX problem. I use the same TX for my Giant Big Stik and have no problems there at all.

There is no BEC switch on the ESC??? Hmm... what amp esc is it? Send EF an email. Chris is a great guy and super duper easy to deal with on warranty and replacement parts... Beautiful Yak... I have the same one... still in the box sadly.

The Castle Creations Phoenix-60 has a BEC that is set through the transmitter programming, but I was looking for a physical switch located on the ESC. I also have a separate BEC when and if I go to a 4s battery. It is not installed.

You need to get this plane built, it is a GREAT flying plane. On the first flight (only lasted about 2 min.) I did not need any trim at all. Flies straight as an arrow. The motor problem has not caused any problems in the air yet but it dose concern me when on the ground, it may try to take off before I am ready.
