need to know what is a good starting point in degrees for control throws low and 3D for a great planes Yak 54 25% 81 " wing span with a 50CC DLE. Please help! The manual is in inches and I would like to set up in degrees. Any thoughts out there giant scale pilots!!!

In a tight, can one use an ignition module from a DLE 111 to run a DA 100 or visa versa?

Hi! I am more of a 3D indoor Foamie and Slo-Fly Pilot, but I have recently come to the beauty of Giant Scale! I am not really old enough for Nitro, Gas, and Giant Scale yet, but I am working on a 1/5th Scale Foamie Yak-54 Made of Home Depot Insulation Foam. It is almost done, and I will have a video when I get it done. I am using a 3536-10 Brushless Outrunner Motor, 40A ESC, 2200-3300mAh Li-Po battery for it and It will only weigh about 2-2 1/2 lbs. so it will have SUCH low wing loading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A few years ago I was mirred in a slump with my job. I was content, or so I thought doing the same thing over and over again. My son then 19, was in a drum contest with the winner going to southern California in further competiton. The age range of the participants was wide, from about 17 years old to drummers in their mid 50's. After hearing the "Older guys" play, my son said to his friend that the old guys play one thing, and play it well. They just can't play anything else. Ouch!. Then I thought about my job. I'm a pilot and can choose to fly domestic or international and had been flying strictly domestic. In particular one route over and over again. My sons words echoed in my ears. Time to make some changes in my job and in my life. I started flying to Asia and decided I actually liked it. Something I said I would never do.

Now, what about our hobby? What are YOU doing? Moving forward or staying behind, doing the same thing over and over again. Giving newer equipment a try or sticking with the old standby? Different servos? Different flying style, maybe even (horrors!) a warbird or ducted fan. When you get to the field, still setting up in the same spot with the same guys flying the same routine every time. Why not reach out to the "other guys" on the opposite side of the flight line. I'm guilty of all of these things. I saw a good friend of mine talking to one of the "other end of the flight line" guys and it really surprised me. Next time out to the field, I introduce myself to the "other end guys". Come to find out they are not only really nice guys, but had been involved in hydroplane design and building. I had actually met one of them thirty years earlier when I needed some magnetos worked on. He had an engine shop and had been working on Rolls Royce Merlin engines for the hydro's.

Next thing for me to do as far as moving forward, is to update my 3m Comp-arf Extra 260. I originally installed Hitec 5955's on all the flying surfaces. I am really interested in the new Futaba brushless/high voltage servos along with sBus. I've read some of the threads, and looks like the Aussies are ahead of the game, and I want to see how this will work. Initially I will put them on my ailerons, as they are programmable like the 5955's I have now. The servos are installed on a piece of phenolic and are mounted in the wing with only one hinge point. I have not had any issues with the Hitec servos, but it's time to move forward and try something new. I will also be removing the voltage regulators and using BLS175HV servos along with a new R6208SB receiver. I know the servos are expnesive, but when I bought the Hitec's they weren't cheap either, almost $100 each five years ago. Maybe comparing 2007 dollars and 2012 dollars the prices would be similar, I really don't know.
It's time to try a new technology and move forward. Just like the jump most modelers made to 2.4ghz radios.

The engine is the most significant part of your RC car. Tending the RC car engine requires more time than similar spot-checks on your car’s tires or body. You need to set up a regular maintenance routine, inspecting for damage before every race and after running your car.
Instructions
Clean your motor with a specialty cleaner from your local hobby store. These cleaners typically come from a large metal spray can and are sprayed directly into your engine.
Replace the brushes and springs if needed. You should be able to know when these items need replaced by doing a visual inspection during your RC car engine maintenance routine.
Use a soft towel to wipe off the cables and wires on your RC car engine as often as possible. Even a short race can cause a large number of dirt to get caked onto the wiring system. Prevent the increase of dirt and rust by using WD-40 on the engine to make it last longer.
A weekly inspection for engine fluids including the fluid in differentials and shocks is also a need. The fluid levels should keep plain.
Check your air filter after each run and add new oil, which can keep your engine running longer than it would if you use the same air filter for a long time.
Read carefully the manual, especially the additional tips on how to best RC car maintain your engine.
Tips
If you need assistance for your engine or have questions, take your RC car to a hobby store and ask for some in-person assistance or more experienced racers for advice.

Hello fellow fliers. I have been flying RC since the mid 60's and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I built my first 1/4 scale aircraft approx. five years ago. It is a p-51 mustang.My wife just bought me for Christmas a 1/4 scale P-47. I work out of town so much I haven't been home enough to even think about starting it.Maybe at the end of 2012 I will be able to start on it. I have been flying my heli on the road so I can still keep flying something. I hope to go to Wenatchee in Sept.Happy flying. Doug

I had a small weather window of opportunity today to finally maiden my Aeroworks 100cc Carbon Cub. It was 58 degrees with a rather strong wind out of the SW (cross to my runway). I decided to get the monster out of the trailer and give it a go anyway. "It's always windy to the airplane, right"? This airplane is very large and care must be taken when assembling and disassembling if you are expirencing rather strong winds. I think you could wind surf just holding one wing panel as it is the size of a surfboard. Luckily, I had numerous helpers to "marshall" my airplane so the wind didn't do any nasty things to it while I assembled.

Went through final checks on all fastners, ranged checked, fueled her up and gave it a go. By the time it took me to advance the throttle from idle to 1/4 it was already off the ground climbing nicely. I have a DA120 on cans in the beast so 1/4 throttle was fine for the entire maiden. Nothing spectacular today but nice coordinated race track circles. Gave it a click of down elevator (not sure if it needed it but it has such high lift it helped keep it from climbing). Will give another go for sure, hopefully it won't be so windy. It's a big pussy cat of an airplane though. Flies itself practically. This will be my "breaktime" airplane from aerobatic sorties with my other gassers. Landing was almost a chore due to the high wind as it just didn't want to quit flying. Uneventfully, she touched down almost 90 degrees cross to the runway. Yeah, it was windy. Didn't want to risk a side load on this first flight.

I am very pleased with this airplane! Unmatched Aeroworks quality, looks, and bang for your buck as we've all come to enjoy with an AW product. Highly recommend this airplane if you want to just enjoy the beauty of flight. Very scale and good looking. It is very big however so bear that in mind if you decide to purchase. Your shop gets very small along with your trailer. I had to have a custom window put in my shop to make it easier to get it in and out of the shop.
