Hello everyone,
I am new to your website; I did some research into hot looking EDF foam jets, and sad to say "hot looking seems to = banana hobby = buyer beware !" so I actually cancelled my order from them; Hobby Lobby is somewhat of a trusted site Not as well perhaps as Horizon Hobby which I help turn to an empire (just kidding) with all the money I spent there....mainly on super well built Hanger 9 products and decent built Park zone, etc.; anyways, I have a Su 34 from Hobby Lobby in the mail as of today, and it is a shame that the servos and the landing gear will be of poor quality....I can handle changing the servos to MG (standard procedure for me) but the landing gear dickering is I am sure well beyond my expertise; I can however, cross my fingers and try to not fly in x-winds and give it my smoothest landing possible to save the bird legs; now thanks for reading this far, I would like to share with you a more constructive thought than the first paragraph I just finished writing; a buddy of mine purchased the Habu PNP I helped him get it flight ready and maiden flight it for him and PAOWWWW !!! what a bird ! the Habu is the reason I am chasing EDFs with a passion...I do not want to buy a Habu cause "we" already have one...but folks I was sweating bullets for weeks thinking of the day I would to have maiden someone else's EDF jet....BUT, it was one the most relaxing flights ever; the politest bird I have come across...it is a beast with class and manners in every way; I know I may get raped by crappy cheezball edfs, but: heck bring it on....however, for those of you who want a SAFE HOT looking EDF jet which is :

1. Large and visible (looks yellow on top from distance, and dark bottom)
2. No bad habits, super easy to fly (for me, an OK pilot)
3. quality with several MG servos (except aileron, but you can pilot well with rudder in emergency I guess)
4. added Rudder control for long takeoff rolls and precision landings yaw
5. big canopy for larger batteries
6. about 3lbs for solid flight in wind

I have not found another well rounded jet quite like it;
Is Hobby-Lobby Su-34 jets better looking , YES
Is BANANA Hobby jets better looking than better looking, YES
Am I about to get spanked for buying a junky jet: Maybe, probably.
But for those who value their money more than I and want to play it safe, you have my recommendation with the Habu.

Take care guys, and you certainly hit the nail on the head by pointing out that quality products and customer service = customer for life. Hey, China economy maybe doing well but WE STILL GOT MONEY HERE ! too and we are looking for QUALITY ABOVE ALL !!!

I look forward to interacting with you all,
I have several nitro planes, with two electric align choppers, and build custom fast foam strykers; I am an OK pilot and decent builder; hope to learn from everyone here,

take care,

Re: Hobby Lobby SU-34 Video Build Thread

I was there helping Craven with this plane, and I agree completely with his review. The plane had a lot of promise, and seemed to fly well once in the air. But the instruction manual needs significant improvement. And the quality of components needs to be higher. The model was setup strictly with the provided hardware.

Great job on the review Craven! I think you hit the nail on the head! I hope they improve the weak points that your review has shown and provide a high-quality product in the near future.

Re: Hobby Lobby SU-34 Video Build Thread

have a guy i fly with in willard that picked up one of these from the toledo show, he brought it out to the field about a month or so ago and wanted me to do the maiden flight on it. started the take-off run and the nose gear was just starting to lift off the ground when something suddenly didn't sound right. shut it down and walked up to it and found that a dandalion or something got into the fan and took out all the blades in the right fan unit. he is still waiting for a replacement fan unit from hobby-lobby since they are on back order.

Not to impressed with the retracts on this thing. seemed to roll for take-off ok on the grass, but will plain on belly landing it.

This is what I saw. But I did see the ones like you have. We were very close to buying the P-51 they had but didnt.
I can only comment on what I tried.

Great instructions could solve that problem.

Great instructions, landing gear improvements and better servos could solve the entire problem in my opinion.

Con: No boost tabs.

Looks like a sweet fun plane. Too bad it didnt do too well to start off. I wonder if those eletric jets they were selling at Joe Nall are just as bad. lol. I saw a ton of them sold considering I was sitting at the OMP booth right across from Hobby Lobby. I believe they sold out of them.

Re: Hobby Lobby SU-34 Video Build Thread

My experience with EDF all have been with SAPAC models. We started selling them and I feel that if we sell something I need to have a good understanding of both the mechanical aspect of the aircraft and the flight aspect as well. So I bought a f16 and a L39 from them to mess with. both planes fly great. I have looked at these Hl for their vector thrust but it sounds like they are a no go. I might just convert my f16 to vector . I tend to get bored flying jets so I need something to keep me busy when we go to the jet event lol.

Re: Hobby Lobby SU-34 Video Build Thread

Thanks for the info Craven. I too, had looked at these as a great "package deal" for the money. Too good to be true?? Maaaay-Be! For me personally though, I always thought I'd start with something a LITTLE less complicated for a first EDF. HL's receiver ready "Skyblazer" F-86 or Mig-15 for $119 perhaps. Small, inexpensive, and simple. Get the feel for the EDF for a while, then move up. I agree though, that every "promo" video I have seen on this SU-34 made it look so good, and very easy to operate, that most with significant airplane experience would think "I can do that".

Thanks again, for the Heads-Up.
