Re: QQ 85" YAK
I built one of these Yaks Last fall and to tell you the truth the quality leaves a little to be desired for the cost.
The manual that comes with the plane to me was almost useless. The biggest help the manual was to me was setting the plane up for flight,Not for building.
The kit itself as far as workmanship is run of the mill a person can pick any companys ARF's apart.
No fuel tank mount or tray included with the kit..*** for that money it should be there.
No throttle mount ot tray or even a discription of where to mount with 3w or DA engines.
The canopy and hatch need to have mods done to them to make sure you dont loose them in flight. Make sure to add balsa runners across the hatch or it will buckle in KE flight and pop off, Be sure to reglue the canopy to the frame and add red canopy tape to the lower edge. Over drill the front pins and add fuel tubing over them it really helps knock down on vibration on the hatch.
The cowl the stock grommet set up that come with the plane works for about 50 flights then the cowl cuts them in half and its metal on fiberglass, guess what wins
I am still looking for a good cowl mount for this plane to date i have tried 3 diff ways and still have to retighten after every other flight..Damn shaking DA 50 hard to make em run smooth as a boxer engine.
Mind you none of the above is that big a deal and can be rectified in about 3 hours one more thing be sure to check the glue joints on the elevator in the fuse both mine came loose after a couple of gallons
Now onto the best part about this plane is it does fly really sweet for an 85" airframe it can do all the tricks it's big brother can and then some with no ill handling effect that i have noticed, It's slow speed handing is really well with a min of wing rock in a harrier,KE flight is good with a lil mixing needed all in all it's a good ARF a little high on price but a very nice flying package..
Just one persons HO
