KrisW, There are always several ways to skin a cat. Either the three needle carb or the redesigned reed block will work. The least expensive way to fix the problem is replacing the reed block. How do you know that the 3 needle carb doesn’t work, since there is only 2 or 3 of these out there and they are all in California. |

Actually, Andy, no carburetor modification has proven 100% successful at stopping the fuel puddling issues. The basic mis-engineering of the inlet tract makes it impossible to achieve a carbretor tuning, at low flow velocities, that will never puddle. This is basic 2-stroke science. People, like RTK, who run at pretty lean needle settings do not experience the symptoms of this puddling as badly as those who tune richer, which is conducive to 3D type flying. Just seeing the difference in how the engine runs with proper inlet shaping is enough to end any ideas about further costly modifications to the carburetor itself.
But, as you pointed out, the cheap fix, in this case, is probably the best solution. Simply make the inlet flow as it always should have, and let the carburetor take care of itself.
