In depth build - Krill Katana 39%
This past week I had (finally) began to build my friends new Krill Katana for the 2008 IMAC season. A little late in the build season to do this - but this should not take no more than 4 weeks time to complete - I have roughly 15 hours in this build as of right now. Mainly been working only 2 hours in the evening - and thats not everynight. With this build I intend to show my techniques in finshing the Krill Aircraft, this will be my 3rd build from start to finish and 4th in set up 'turn key' condition. Along the way, please feel free to comment or ask questions...or even point out another way of doing the job that may end up being faster or more easier to accomplish.
There is really no method to my madness. On this go round - I decided to hit the wings and the stabs first, as they seem to be the most time consuming in the build of the Katana.
Items that need to be done on the wings
1) Aileron servo hatches need to be located and drilled for 4ea screws to secure to the wing.
2) Servo Hatches need to be covered in Monokote (or paint if you like) to match the painted wing.
3) Servo mounting blocks need to be located installed on the aileron servo hatches.
4) Control horns need to be located and installed in the ailerons.
5) Ailerons need to be slotted to accept the control horns.
6) A medium sized Robart Pin Hinge needs to be installed at the I/B side of the aileron. (not necasarry, but recomended due to the size of the ailerons)
7) Wings incedence set on fuse (0*)
ITEMS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE WINGS
1) 2ea - 29" servo extensions (O/B servos)
2) 4ea - 4" Titanium push rods
3) 4ea - R/H threaded ball links
4) 4ea - L/H threaded ball links
5) 4ea - 1.5" servo arms
Items that need to be done on the Stabs/Elevators
1) Install servo's inside the stabs.
2) Cut slots in stabs to accomodate the servo arms to come through.
3) Slots cut in the elevators to accept the control horns. (same as ailerons)
4) Stabs slid on stab tubes and then drilled to except 4-40 (or 6-32) retaining bolt.
ITEMS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE STABS/ELEVATORS
1) 70" servo extensions (final length to be determined on personal installation)
2) R/H and L/H threaded ball links (number depends on number of servos used)
3) 1.5" servo arms (number varies on servos used)
4) 2ea Titanim pushrods for I/B servos -
5) 2ea Titanium pushrods for O/B servos (if used) - 2"
