Receiver options with Airtronics and Futaba
I fly both large 3D gassers and all carbon/kevlar molded gliders. I've been following threads on a lot of the glider sites regarding the trials and tribulations of using the JR / Spektrum stuff, and reading up on the experiences of the jet crowd.
Well, after a ton of reading and research, I've decided that Futaba and Airtronics is the way to go for me, because I think that freq hopping seems a bit more reliable (just my humble opinion), and having to deal with extra little Rx's is a hassle to me. I like that I can also extend the antennas on the Futaba and Airtronics Rx's, and only have to make sure that the little bare ends are clear of any carbon or metal and oriented 90 deg to each other. With the new 10C, I think Futaba may finally have something to compete with the JR9303 for those of us who like to fly gliders! The programming on the Futaba radios has always been my complaint, but I think I'm going to go for it with the 10C, and I'm also going to pick up at least one Airtronics RDS8000. Man, that has got to be the most radio you can buy for that price, hands down!
Now, my big question is: is Airtronics going to offer some smaller Rx's (fewer channels) that will work with the RDS8000? And second, what Rx's are compatible with Futaba's new 10C and 12FGA?
I only wish that Multiplex still manufactured and supported the Profi 4000 radio and offered it as a dedicated FHSS system. I would be in hog heaven then, cause that radio is still the most versatile and capable radio I've ever had the pleasure to use.
