Re: airframe choice
I had the Xtreme Composites 100cc 540... nice looking plane, but a lot of rudder-aileron and rudder-elevator coupling. It's fast, very long glide path, and it does fly slow very well, but coupling is an issue in anything but regular forward flight. They don't sell them in the USA anymore, but there are a lot of people still flying them. Once you get the coupling mixed out, it's not a bad plane.
In comparison to the CompARF, the XF a distant second place. Some of the finishing details that CompARF takes, (like installing the canopy mounting tabs, drilling the holes in the stab and tube and mounting the blind nuts in the stab tube, etc.. are not done by XF.
As for the other planes you mentioned... I do like the Aeroworks line. I've owned 3 or 4, each has been very fun to fly. They aren't the lightest planes on the planet, but they are good quality, straight flying planes. Rocco (owner) is very helpful and if there's a problem, they always do the right thing. Several IMAC pilots fly Aeroworks.
ExtremeFlight is headquartered about 4 miles from my house... a great owner (Chris) who is very active in the hobby, and he builds very light, good flying planes. I would say that you'd be happier with one of his planes if you're at the "experienced" level... there's always a trade-off between light and sturdy, and his would be on the "light" end of the curve. So, if you're comfortable with getting a plane up and down (sounds like you are), and you're looking for a good 3D or IMAC plane (his planes have won several in both classes).. you might take a long look at ExtremeFlight.
In general, if you're looking for a plane with less mixing required... go with a Yak over an Edge. The Yaks have a mid-wing design, so there's about the same weight/airfoil above and below the wing. Rudder design is pretty critical on a Yak, and ExtremeFlight does a great job of balancing the amount of rudder resistance above and below the thrust line.
OK Everyone... tell me how wrong I am.....
