Does the carb have only one line going to it from the pump? If so, you can probably make it work, but if it has two lines ( one being a return ) the you'll need to get a new carb as well as back plate and then you can omit the pump all together.
By that I mean turn it into a non-pumped engine.

Thanks for the info Dewayne. Yes the carb only has one line going to it. I ordered a new backplate(non pump), hopefully it will work on this older version I have, I think it will. Another question I have is: there is a line that runs from the front of the crankcase(tapped) to the intake manifold...what is the purpose of that line?...Thanks in advance..
