I use a small hand air pump e.g. bicycle pump (my Robart retract pump does it for me) to pressurize the fuel can forcing the fuel to the tank.

Very low pressure is needed usually 2-3 strokes of the pump will easily fill a 500cc tank. To empty the onboard tank if necessary I just do the reverse and pressure the tank so the flow is back to the gas can.

Nothing to prime, wear out, break, leak or aggravate due to poor performance. Has lasted more years than I can remember.

I built my own gas electric pump. It was pretty simple to do and only cost about $70 (including the pump). Years or reliable use and my arm never tires.

Thanks, John
I use the Hanger 9 hand crank pump. It's a gear type pump that is super simple and reliable in operation. Tower's, Hobby Hut's, hanger 9's, etc etc. all look the same because they are the same. All come from the same Taiwanese factory.

The difference between a Glow and a Gas version is the fuel lines used. The pump head itself is the common.

I have found that these pumps will take more cranks depending on the size line one uses. Used to use 3/32" ID and it took around 70 cranks to fill 16 ozs. Went to 1/8" ID and it takes around 50 cranks to fill the same tank. YMMV

The difference is the material the seals are made of Viton for gas and a silicone type for glo

The Hanger 9 pump says it is for gas or glo .... I use one with each fuel with no problems. I provided my own lines ... Tygon for gas, silicone for glo.

Here's my home made fuel electric fuel pump setup I built for last season. $22 for the MPI gas pump I believe I paid, and about $30 for the project box, wiring, fuse holder, fuse, switches, spare 2100mah 3s lipo, etc.

Works awesome!!! I was sick of 300 cranks per 1L tank of gas in the 100cc'ers on the MPI hand crank after a couple seasons. I'll post the instructions someone here did up if anyone's interested.

Truck, glow is acceptable for heli's. Would be nice if someone would make a nice gasoline heli engine though. One with enough power for 3-d.

How about a lid that just screws off on the plane, so you can simply pour gas in the tank like ya do on a chain saw? Wouldn't that be sweet! Tell everybody you saw it first here!

RC cars use that basic system...

Flip up cap for filling.

Unfortunately these tanks don't use clunks as they are not expected to need to work inverted. And they are a bit small.

+1 -- and an ounce or two of fuel running arount loose in the fuse helps keep the wood from getting too brittle!
