I think I've, uh, heard of that pilot....

I've been wanting a chance to fly one of those hempel 40% since I was told about it's awesomeness. Seriously it just looks like more fun than a barrel of monkeys, I saw something like that at the nall last year too which was just way too enabling.. I used to fly full scale cubs a lot so it really tickles me to see them 3D.

Here is a video Fullspool put together for me of the Super Cub and JC 120 EVO- please excuse the watermark, the free editing program that was used decided it needed an indecipherable advertisement in the middle of the screen to annoy us into paying for it...

codyjc120cub.mpeg (3 min 36 sec)

I got third place competing in Sportsman flying that plane against 8 pilots earlier this summer, and won FIRST in freestyle last contest against two very competent (excellent) pilots flying state of the art 3D machines....

I love my Cubs so much I sprung for a Blue and white clipped wing... The day after it arrived we were doing some very low and slow full flap touch and goes with the Super Cub in a light breeze making super tight rudder turns flying in a 100' pattern. I'd done at least a dozen turns to final and landing successfully when one ill fated breeze came through making a downwind turn and just slammed the plane into the ground before I could do anything. The plane just lost traction and fell out of the sky... My friends tell me it's because it got jealous of the new clipped wing and decided to teach me a lesson. Well, lesson learned- no matter how much practice you have, or how good your plane flies an ill wind can ruin your day!

Second, two of my friends built Balsa USA Cub Kits this past year, one 1/4 scale and one 1/3 scale. I do believe i will be witnessing some cubs at our field 3-Ding this year, cant wait!

I guess I was thinking that it would be cool to have a 3d Cub Flying Gallery Thread with setup essentials, radio tweaks, and flying tips for those who are getting into this unusual and perverse art form. Please post Pics if you got 'em and video is always good too!
That's incredible!

Glad I found this thread! I always get funny looks when I throw my Cub around

ProBro~
There are a number of differences between the J-3 and the Super Cub, but for basic comparison the J-3 has no flaps and the Super does have flaps. The Clipped wing is just what it sounds like- shorter wingspan. This allows for faster roll rate and a little less stability for better aerobatic performance.

Hovering Cubs? How many fans of realism do we have left?

I've got a fair amount of time in a Clipped Cub. It's just as stable as a long wing J-3, but as you mention, the clipped wings allow for a litte better roll rate. It also makes the wing/strut arrangement stronger for increased G-loading, not that you really need much G to do acro in a Clipped Cub. Lots of fun.

I guess the 3d guys need to stop hovering their extras and yaks too. After all, the real ones can't do it either.

They almost can, and would if they could. Never said anybody needs to stop anything. Just curious how many enjoy realism in modeling. You can appreciate 3D as its own thing, separate from realism.
