Ah the Daytona 500 today

Sigh....... hit a snag last night on the Blazer rebuild:



went to open the piston ring box, and found out that the part
number that all the stores call for is WRONG... the new rings
compared to the old rings are night and day....
At a stand still once again....

I'm thinking that I should have just small block v8'ed this thing!

Neighbor came over and had me do the job I was going to do yesterday. No work in the shop today, but got $$ to pay for the trip to Toledo and for a smoke pump and some other goodies

Well, good news and bads bad news today..... (Just got back from parts store)

Wooooweeee.... I'm thinking I'm walking a little rough after this visit.... ouch...

Good news, is the parts store took back the wrong piston rings and gave me
the credit... $49.99

Bad new is the price difference was $69... ($118) wow!

Turns out that after all the research... all the parts stores are wrong,
(they say that the rings are two 5/64" and one 3/16")
The pistons that are in the 1999 Chevy Vortec V6 are the same
pistons used in the 1999 Chevy Vortec V8 (#10172839 castings)
These use two 1.5mm and one 3mm oiler ring....

I should have the new ones Wednesday morning.... Then I'll be
back on track again.....

No, I don't.... but I was watching that news report live
up at the parts store.... not cool.... man.... just awefull
when people have to do that kind of crap....
