Re: Full scale F-86 rebuild thread

Ok, guys (and gals)...here's a few pics I took a while ago with my blackberry showing progress that has been made. Understand that more...MUCH more has been done since these pics were taken, but unfortunately I'm out of the country at the moment for my day job. I'll try to post some updated pics when I get back in a couple weeks.

Drop tanks:

Since these pics were taken, the majority of the focus has been on the canopy/cockpit. The ejection seat was removed, charges temporarily disabled (it will be reactivated as a "hot" seat upon reinstallation) and taken apart, repainted and reupholstered. The cockpit itself was repainted to an off-white, much nicer (and cooler!) then the black paint it originally had. A lot of extraneous wiring/switching was removed and new cover panels and placards installed. It is VERY nice inside, with an effort made to keep the instrumentation somewhat close to original.

Exterior paint is starting very soon, and then reassembly will begin. We're optimistically hoping the plane will fly again sometime this fall.

How do you decide to take on a project of this magnetude! Really cool to see someone still willing to go to these extremes to restore vintage aircraft.

Just curious, but what kind of biplane is that in the last pic? Looks kinda like a Pawnee Bipe? If it is then thats neat because its the first one I've ever seen.

That is interesting. What is it?

Nothing shows up on a Google search.

Looks like an AG-Cat, crop dusting biplane, not sure though. Most Ag-Cats I have seen have a radial engine in them, but this could be in the same family of planes.

So... how much for a 20 minute flight in the T-33? If it's cheap I'm flying up there!

Re: Full scale F-86 rebuild thread

I'll take you up in the T-bird for the cost of gas...which isn't insignificant. The thing burns a gal. of jet-A every 20 secs. At idle. You're looking at about 220 gals for an hour ride.

The biplane is a spray plane called an Eagle. 300 horse engine, and a HUGE wingspan, around 55 ft!!
