Vanquish Maiden
Paul, congrats on your maiden flight with the Vanquish today. It really flew well, a testament to the attention to detail you've applied the last several months. The HiMax motor is awesome - NO problems with uplinks in the future. I think you are really going to love this bird as you become more familiar with it.

Thank you Art.
I really appreciated your help and support this afternoon. The Vanquish did fly well and I'm glad I spent the time to assemble it the best I could. I thank all the people that gave me tips and explained the why things should be like this or like that and got me started and interested in Pattern. All these post I've made is my way of paying forward. One comment about the motor. It's so powerful it intimidated me I never used full power. It is scary. I will download the ESC data later. Everything went as expected. Paul |

Hi Nick,
I'm just having fun. It was 79-80 degree yesterday and I had 4 flights all with no problems. I'm still not pushing the Vanquish, just trying to get my fingers back in shape. I started with the Falcon 21.5 x 13.5. On the third flight I dropped it on landing (let the Elev. go) and nicked the prop. When the Vanquish is sitting on all three wheels there is only 2 inches of clearance there is less once the tail wheel leaves the ground. With the 21.5 inch prop there is not much room for errors when landing so I got the Falcon 20.5 X 14.5. I like both but with my limited time in the air and the plane not gone through the trimming procedure I don't know which I would say is best. I changed some of the ESC setting. I set up an high idle switch to help with a very smooth engine start transition. (Thanks Scott and Ray) I watch the temp like a hawk, the highest its gotten is 147 F in 80 degree weather. The plane flies straight and level but needs some small trimming adjustment. I will fly more and then set the Vanquish up to start the Triangulation Trimming Method. I built a stand for it because that bending over to change batteries or removing the wings got old fast. I've held the flying time to 7 minuets but looking at the Castle data I can start to move to a longer time. I've gone through and checked all bolts everything is still the same as day one. I was the last one to leave the field yesterday and I locked the gate with a big smile, it was one of those great days you have in RC flying. Paul. |

Glad you are having fun Paul.
The reason I asked what prop is simply that I saw you said earlier that you are using a 21.5 x 13.5. For the life of me I can't find that prop on F3A's web site. I am currently using an APC 21 x 13 and like it. On F3A's site I see in the lite version a 21.5 x13 and 21 x 13.5 but not a 21 x13, except in the heavier prop. I am looking at the carbon prop simply for the weight saving, not to mention the lower inertia. Glad you are having fun, Nick |

About three years ago when I started flying RC, Paul ask"ed me if I wanted to try flying IMAC and I said sure, and that really gave me purpose to my flying. I also made new friends, learned a lot about plane set up, and bought my first gas engine plane. This all leads up to yesterday when I was out flying at our field and Paul shows up with his brand new Vanquish and asked me if I wanted to fly it, well what a sweet flying plane I could really draw some nice lines with it and he did not even have it trimmed out yet, thank you, now I'm going to have to get one of these.
Thanks again Jerry. |

Jerry I'm glad you liked flying the Vanquish.
Ray and I just got finished setting the engine thrust degrees using the Laser. I will start the Triangulation Trimming some time this week. The Vanquish flies straight and level with neutral elevator. It flies a decent up line and a good down line. I have no radio mixing of any kind so far. I changed props so I will also change the throttle curve. Jerry thanks for posting. Paul |

Ray,
I just received the Triangulation Trimming Guide and started to study it. The first thing that hit me was how valuable the MAC drawing you produced for the Vanquish. At the time you gave it to me and I posted it here I did not appreciate how valuable it is and the work you did to produce it. Now I see how it is to be used. Thank you Paul |

Here's an update to the Laser System. I added a mirror to an additional mounting leg
of the Hangar 9 Incidence Meter. After calibrating its measurements went much faster. Measurements were easier to reproduce. Mirror was attached with ShoeGoo. Paul |
