I'd like to see some test results of one with a 150cc engine. Only because there are a bunch of them engines out there. Its not much smaller than a 170. And most GS guys already have one or more.

Re: Ultra Light 55% Extra 260

I will go out on a limb and say that a 150 on pipes will fly it pretty good for just tooling around, how many 45-50# planes have been flown with them in the past before the 170 came out.. But the guys that want the unlimited pull in the top classes will no doubt be using at least the 170 on pipes..then the 200. I'm kinda excited to see the 200, I've never seen one and hear nothing but good about it, but like most, I know I cant afford it, so my 170 will be around for along time. As far as drag goes, the same was said of the 40% with the 100, and then again when bob and i lightend my 40% yak to 36#'s, but the 170 on muffs yanks it around like its not even there, so drag is of little issue when the airframes are very light.

Hi Bob, Your plane is looking great! A 200 imust be about 3lb heavier than a 170, plus 2 exta exhausts+ the extra ignition+ battery. Figure it has to add at least 4lb maybe even 5. Whats the new projected weight falling out at? You must be under your budget for weight to make this change?

The DA200 is well worth the extra 2 pounds that comes with it!

I looked at this closely prior to ording my 200 for this project. The weight difference is not as substancial as you might think when you factor in the 2+ lbs of pipes and headers on the 170.

I think the cool factor takes another pound off too

Dean has the weight difference all laid out between the two power plants on a spread sheet that he sent me, (Thanks Dean) with all things considered, the actual weight difference is only about 2. 75 lbs more.
At this point in time, I just need to finish this thing and then get the ready to fly weight at that point, I can say that at this point, things are still looking good and moving forward.

I also need to let you know that the kit version will be in the range of 4 lbs. lighter due to the .75 lb density core that will be in the kit over my proto that has 1lb density.

There have been many uninformed and misstated weight values regarding differences in using a DA200 instead of a DA170. This has taken place primarily in other threads and I’d hate to see that start happening in this thread also. Below is a weight comparison of using a DA200 Vs. DA170 using actual values weighed in converting a build from a 170 to a 200. These numbers have previously been shared with Bob and he has factored them into his design and thinking.

That's the same combo I'm planning on using too simply based on the cost of a DA 170 vs. a DA 200.

for my style of "sport" flying, the 170/pipe combo will be MORE than enough power. it will be LIGHT too!
