Re: MT 70 twin, smooth, light powerful 50cc upgrade

Tomy,
Single bolt hub or four bolt hub, they both work just fine. The only thing I would suggest is to increase the hub face diameter to 2 inches or 50mm. The current 1.5 inch hub doesn't have enough surface area to reliabily transfer the torque this engine makes to the larger props without adding some type of friction material (sandpaper) to increase the gripping power of the hub face. The four bolt hub might help reduce that problem, but if the prop slips, then you have sheared bolts to deal with....with a single bolt hub, if it slips, it damages the back of the prop face.....either way, you have damage. If you increase the diameter of the hub face, you nearly elminate the possibilities of damage with either style hub. The four bolt hub is better for repeatable prop centering because of the fixed center shaft, but the single bolt hub is quick, easy and if your careful, centers just as well. If you go with a single bolt hub, you might look at using a steel thread insert to help tighten the tolerance between the bolt and hub threads to improve the prop centering repeatabliity and longivity of the threads.....just an idea. Single bolt hub or four bolt hub.......again, it's just users or manufacturers preference. They both work fine.

Since we are on the subject of MT engines, I thought I'd ask if anyone had any experience with the MT-80 single? Looks like a nice engine and the price is attractive. Not trying to change the subject or jack the thread.

Thanks in advance

The darn lightend backplate for my fiberglass spinner has a very small raised surface with ridges to grip the prop. The backplate doesn't slip on the prop driver (I'm using the pins to locate the backplate), the frickin prop will slip on the backplate even when I tighten the crap out of the bolt with a 10" socket wrench. I tried some double sided mesh sandcloth between the prop and the backplate, didn't work on this one. Maybe if I mill the backplate smooth and glue regular sandplate to it it would work better.

Thanks for the tip. Does anyone have any long term experience with the MT-80 now that it's been out for a while?

You will be looking at a 25x10 turning about 5800 to 6000 with the MT 80 equipped with low restriction mufflers.

Thanks. Maybe a used ZDZ 80 would be a better option in the long run.

Centering is very important. If you were using one of Ralph's strong 2024 hubs I would think the single bolt hub would be great.

To keep material costs down the four bolt hub makes sense. Could buy a single bolt conversion if that's what you want.

Re: MT 70 twin, smooth, light powerful 50cc upgrade

So, new here.
Sorry if my english is not 100%

I whas looking for a twin engine.

For a 2.2 meter plane, first i whas thinking about a DL-55 single.
But a twin is more fun, for the sound.

I whas looking for the engine on there site:
http://www.mtenginesusa.com/index.html

More power and almost even heavy and twin.

But the engine is not on the site any more, only in the flash player.

So i mailed them.
First reaction:

We do not sell the MT70 any more.

Second mail why it whas still on the flash player:
They are the old flash photos. We may carry the MT line again in the future but they have not reached the quality level we require at this time.

So i think MT-70 is over for now.
But i rather see it now then that i buy one and cant get any spair parts....

Its sad
Now im think to buy a:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11973

The site from china has the MT70 still on there site:
http://www.mtengines.cn

But if the site from the usa stop deliver them......., dont look good?
Someone know or there are more selling points?
