I'm betting its not anything about what can or can't "carry a camera" with todays technology anything can carry a camera.

Think more like, what can do damage to a full scale aircraft like flying outside LOS, etc.

Do drones come with serial numbers? My airplanes don't. The balsa wood that I purchase to build something from scratch does not have a serial number. The plans that I buy to build from scratch do not have any serial numbers. What exactly am I registering? What happens if I don't register? If I sell a plane to someone else does he or she have to register it. If they don't register it and hurt someone am I liable?

Look for the establishment of an FDRC
Federal Drone Registration Center

the buyer and seller, face to face, meet up at the local FDRC and submit the proper paperwork, when the seller has his/her background checked, the registry will allow the transfer to take place.

With regards to kit built planes, you must submit a sample of the balsa used, so that the FDRC can scan the grain patterns and upload this info to the National FDRC database. If your "drone" causes an incident, they can then match up the balsa prints to the database.

I watched the press conference and what a joke. The whole purpose was to make a big front and scare to everybody so they will register their drones when they buy them. In one of the questions the guy said will the "drone police" be enforcing this lmao. The main guy Mr. Fox had alot of uh uh uh and acted like a typical politician and would not give you anybody a straight awnser hmm. They still do not have a away to make sure people register their drones when they fly them so good luck with that.

One thing that I now for sure if is that none of my model airplanes or quads will ever be classifieds as "drones" in my book so I am not going to register them or will I when i buy more. I have lost alot of respect for the AMA giving into this BS and not standing up for us

The only way I see any kind of drone registering working is to make them have to be activated like a cell phone. Since my model airplanes are not drones, despite what wikipedia says, this won't apply to me. Dammitt. Lol.

Rich Hanson was standing on the stage with the rest of them. His statement did seem to indicate that AMA will be working as part of this committee to limit the requirement for us, but I am not optimistic that it will work out that way.

Where do you think the AMA is??? In bed with the drone manufacturers. They have clumped drones and model aircraft together so why in the world would the FAA do any differently. If you think about it, and follow the money, it only makes sense that AMA is on board because they will be directly involved in the registration process. They already have your information and now just need to get your models and types added to your profile. I see them as the natural "governing body" and will get a pile of cash from the feds to implement this crap.

And for anyone that still has the lingering question; YES your model airplane is a DRONE.

Someone on another forum made a good point that the materials used to build model aircraft, or drones, urgh, may not have serial numbers but the receivers do.
