Is there any drain on batteries if they are left connected to a EQ 10 or Pro power ex pander when not in use?

If you are using a soft or pin switch, I would unplug them. They draw a few mah a day just on the soft switch. After a few weeks you could drain your batteries.

What about if the pin switch is unplugged from the power board. The battery connections are tight so I wanted to leave plugged in as not to damage the board.

its not the pin switch that drains them it is the board the only way it won't drain is if you have a slider switch between the bat. and board.

Hi, any soft-switch will draw a small amount of power from your batteries but it is very small. The Eq10 will typically draw 5mAH per DAY from your packs. What this means is that it depends on what is left in your packs but typically you end up with 1/4-1/3 left even when stopping at 7.0V. Over a month you would draw 150mAH which is usually a very small amount compared to the capacity of your battery. If you had full 2600mAH packs it would take 520 DAYs (or almost a year and a half) to drain the packs. I strongly recommend using the soft-switches over mechanical switches because you save weight, you reduce the number of connections, you reduce voltage drops between the batteries and the unit and you eliminate a lot of wiring mess.

I left my batteries plugged in one winter after flying my plane six or seven flights. Both batteries were dead as a door nail when I went to charge them up the following spring. So, if you use 50% or more of your batteries capacity and then leave your plane in storage for 4 or 6 months you're going to run the risk of killing your batteries.

Thanks for the info everyone. I wont leave the batteries plugged in long term.
