Wow it has been quiet in here. I guess I will post some more pictures that I got of the 55%er .

I love the size of the Elevators on this plane. I think they are about the size on a .90 main wing lol. I guess I will have plenty of room to make up some Power HD logos.

Hey Guys -

I wanted to give you my input and research as well. It is very similar to what has been offered in here already.

The model numbers that have been reliable for us and in our testing are also the 9150's and the DS090's. You can see a video of the DS090's here compared to a HiTec 5625mg, that is supposed to be as strong, but the DS090 beats it easily. I have a new video of it I'm working on editing that will show you more of the power of this servo.

Power HD DS090M vs. HiTec 5625mg (7 min 54 sec)

http://www.redwingrc.com/video/90mvid.htm

We ordered in about 5 servos of each type we were considering, and ran some tests on them. We had issue right away with one of the DS120s.

The DS090ms have been OUTSTANDING, and since we mostly offer 30cc sized planes, we have mainly stuck with those. HOWEVER, I put them in the 50cc Pitts I am flying now, (except for rudder) and they are flying it amazingly well!

As to different sources different quality: This is TRUE! I know first hand. I get my servos from PowerHD direct. I get about 100pcs at a time. I was running low on the DS090s, and I was placing an order for some spare parts from another wholesale supplier. They offered DS090s. SO I bought about 10 to hold me over. They were JUNK! I don't know if these were the refurbs, or the factory FAILED ones, but most were slower, had grittier sounding gears, and just seemed off... Way off! I tossed them. I have dug a little further, and I know this is partially what happened to the DS120's reputation. AND early production was not as good. I think the NEWEST DS120, if bought from a dealer, who buys straight from the factory, MAY be a good servo, but to be honest, it has too bad of a reputation now, to offer it.

The places that sell servos etc in China, really don't care about the quality. And if they can make a margin, because they are getting them for dirt cheap, becuase they are the ones that didn't meet spec, or refurbed etc, then they don't care, becuase it's more of a pain in the ass for you to return them than to just give up. they know this. And they sell for so cheap they will continue to get buyers.

So far, I have not had a DS090 fail, nor my customers. I had one a customer received DOA, and that's it. I've sold a lot of these, and I am commited to making sure I'm getting quality servos straight from the factory.

I'd offer the 9150s, but I just don't like the speed. They are ok, and work well (and I had them in a 50cc) but am looking for other options for 50cc size+

Hope this helps a little.

RedWing Rc,

Thanks for taking the time to post the video and your experience. That was an impressive comparison. I was surprised at how much more the HD was able to lift compared to the Hitec.

Geo that clearly shows that sometimes there is not always a trade off when buying affordable servos other then maybe the name sometimes lol.

Re: HD Power servos thread

Am I getting from these Power HD threads that the DS120M is garbage, or the the problem for the most part is that Troy Built at first advertised that these servos could be run on 7.4v and they cant ? I bought some of these last october from Troy Built. I installed them on my Pitts S12, but have not ran it yet. I have run the servos a few times and they SEEM fine, but I dont want to find out otherwise in the air. What are the problems that people have with these servos ?

Thank you
Ed

Re: HD Power servos thread

The problem is they have had a bad run... it seems regulated or not, some of the older ones have been known to just stop working ( I don't know about the new ones). I know all servos have problems, but these had way to many reports. Go ahead and fly the Pitts, but cross your fingers! I know that would make it a bit hard to fly. LOL

Re: HD Power servos thread

Hey Timeflys,

T3Beatz is right the DS120s had some bad runs it seems that have hurt that servos rep. The guys that got good ones loved them and alot of guys that got bad ones wont look at Power HD any more. I posted in the thread earlier the response I got back from Power HD about the DS-120s. They informed me that they would be discontinueing that servo and replacing it with something else. That was the response I got when asking if the rumor of the issues being fixed and them coming out with a V2 was true. Alot of guys have jumped up to the 9150 for replacements of their 120s and have had great success.

If I remember right it was a gear train issues. This caused alot of dealers to stop selling this servo.

I hope that helped
