Well, when you pay the cost to be the boss, you dont even have to fly it. I would love to hear it though. After you see me fly one of my 100cc plane's, you will see why its better if I stick to my newest policy. It called the (fly my own plane policy). That being said, you will be just fine. People keep saying the bigger they are, the better they fly. Dont get much better or bigger than that!!!

Sorry for the long break! I got some work done this weekend, however. I had to make some mounts for the canister supports out of some spare aluminum. As you can see, they work really well and the canisters are solid. No shortage of room in this model, that's for sure!

I also started working on the aileron servos and quickly discovered that the rocket city style horns I had purchased were not long enough once I got to the wing root side of the aileron. Off to Ace to get some M5 rod (I hate metric!). In the end, it all worked out and as you can see the blue anodized control horns are a perfect match for the blue in the Red Bull scheme.

Started putting together the Air Wild servo arms. I really love the double truss design of these arms and use them on all of my airplanes. Takes little while to put them all together, but worth it in my opinion!

I also got the velocity stacks installed on the engine. Here again, the existing M5 bolts were too short once I added the velocity stacks and I couldn't find any bolts long enough that the hardware store. So I used threaded rod and lock nuts which should do the trick just fine.

I think I used an entire tube of Loctite today!

Looks Great! I just received one of the 57% as well. I think ours were built in the same batch. Received the stock scheme. Probably should have went RedBull! I think Bill would sell me a second one in a Heart Beat

Any tips on the 420 setup? A little unfamiliar. What size standoffs did you end up with? Any Hurdles you ran into?

Thanks
Bill

I bet he would! I was wrong about the aluminum spacers that came attached to the wing tube. The firewall is set up specifically for the 420 and needs no spacers. My initial placement of the servos for the throttle and choke got in the way of the cans, so give that some thought before you mount them. Other than tha, it's been straight forward so far.

I'll let you know if I run into any issues. I'm headed for Chicage this weekend so won't be building. : (

You should post some pics of your bird!! I'd love to see it.

Here are some pics of mine. I have been flying it for about 8 months now. I have built 3 of these airplanes and they rock. I have 3 of these 420 quads and have run that 3 blade you are going to use and it is not a good choice Imo . You may look into something else. Keep up the good work looking good. We are pretty close to each other we should get together and have a 60% throwdown.

BbbbbbbbYEAH! I'll trailer over to Logan anytime. Nice looking aircraft brother.

Any other build tips? Not a fan of the 3-blade? Why not? Not too late to change my mind! : )

Heading for Chicage tomorrow so I won't be able to build this weekend. You know it's a sickness when you'd rather build than take a vacation . . .

You are more than welcome. My experiance with the 3 blade is it is to big. Your motor will only turn about 4500 rpm. Tbm doesnt know crap about these motors or prop sizes. They recomond the 39x 12 witch will turn 5500 rpm ( to much) and I have two of them if you want one. They are louder than my fullsize mxs or my extra 300l. I have been into these 420's for over 4 years now and have tried every prop under the sun. The three blade will have good speed but your uplines will suffer terrible. If you are interested pm me I will give you my number and we can talk.
Here is a vid of the 260 i have with a 39x12 this was the first flight so not to crazy but something to see.

60% Extra 260 - ZDZ 420 (Techno Mix) (5 min 24 sec)
