Hey!

I have a DLE-170 with stock mufflers on a Pilot RC 122" Extra (pretty heavy plane), that's the one I show the plug after 200 flights above. And, another DLE-170 with stock mufflers on a H9 122" Sukhoi. That has about 25 flights on it now and is really coming on strong too. A bottle rocket already on that plane which, of course, is much lighter. But, I'm really impressed with the 200 flight engine on the heavier Extra, because I'm flying the Unlimited IMAC sequence with it and it takes some power on those uplines to stay on heading. And, this motor on stock mufflers on this heavy plane does it with ease... with all kinds of power to spare, actually!

I like the Falcon 31x12, 30x13, and 30x13w. All different, all good.

Guys, I bought a brand new DLE170 with production number 1040. I guess it was old stock from my LHS. Which version could this be, still the V1 or newer?

Question #2: I will borrow a DA170 carb to test on my DLE170, because I was having some issues with the original one. I run MTW RE3 pipes with 14" headers. What would be a good starting point for the H and L needles?

Thanks.

Version? I have no idea. Carb setting? Starting from scratch the good old 1 1/2 turn each is a place to start if all else is unknown. If you're wondering about carb changes from switching exhausts, start with what worked before and fine tune. If I were switching carbs and exhaust at the same time I would use the 1 1/2 turn rule regardless of the previous settings.

Hi, I'm not switching exhausts, only carbs. The stock settings of a DA170 carb are totally different than the carb of a DLE170. I've add a screenshot of the DA manual.

My dealings with DA carbs are they are totally a different number carb then any of the china engines.Your going to need to go from a starting point of 1-1/2 turns on each needle just like was suggested.Or just start it up from the original settings on the carb if it has been in recent use,then go from there.The DA carbs that I have work with compared to china carbs,are the DA's run richer.

The difference between the actual engine fuel mixture needs between a da and any other is negligible. The difference is the carb design. So if the carb was working well on one, it will be close with the same settings on another if both engines are setup similar, ie, similar exhausts, etc. So however it was removed from engine A will be a good place to start on engine B then tune from there. If the previous settings were unknown, the standard 1 1/2 on each needle is a standard starting point and safe nearly every time. But there's no way to avoid the need to tune regardless.

+1, spot on!

DA engines that use the same carbs as other engines tune pretty much the same regardless of what engine they are on. The WJ71 is a prime example.

If it has a bridge in the exhaust port it's a V1, if it's one big port then a V2 but who knows how old only a dealer could tell you how old that number is.

Thanks, mine has a bridge.

I will be testing the DA carb this week on my 125inch EF Extra 300. With the original carb I couldn't get it right;
