I got to watch this performance by John Klatt a few weeks ago. Friggin awesome performance. Maneuvers included knife edge spins, waterfalls, and sorta-rolling harriers.

Very cool. What a roll rate. Those negative g pushes must have pushed his eyes out of their sockets!

Not at all...it's basically stalled throughout - which means about 1G...and positive at that. Here's a different type of flying that is not as "exciting", but much more impressive (to me), considering the extreme skill required to fly like this. With the exception of a few guys who display top-level skill (ie. Rob Holland, Matt Chapman, David Martin) I find most of the monoplane acts pretty monotonous, and not very interesting. Renaud was one of the best of all time. Of course, competition acro is a totally different sport from airshow acro. The push at 2:04...that hurts. Looks like at least 8 negative. You won't see cleaner snaps anywhere.

That was most impressive aerobatic sequence I've ever seen. Unmatched precision, every point nailed, every snap both pos and neg exit exactly on heading. What a tragedy he and his family are no longer with us. Godspeed

Yeah.. I've probably watched that video over 100 times. That push at 2:04 is PAIN. Renaud was incredible. He flew with such grace and style. My favorite part of the flight, was after the 1 turn neg spin 3/4 inside loop neg 1 1/2 snap opp pos snap. He pulls up into a simple tailslide w/1/4 roll up, but anyone who's flown acro knows how hard it is to have that kind of control at such low energy. He made it look effortless. Such a tragic loss. I'm right there with you too. I'd much rather watch stuff like this than the current airshow flying. Much more impressive to me than most guy's endless gyroscopic stuff.

Absolutely! That's why I'd rather watch Mike Goulian, Matt Chapman or Rob Holland over the rest.....their competition experience shows in the crisp lines and precise execution.
