Hey Henry, not sure if you mentioned it but are you using Durant system in the rudder? I have a dual servo Durant install in the rudder of my Carden PRO and this can eliminate a few extra ounces as well.

I try and work on it a little bit every day. I know when you are at the stage you are at it's like "come on, isn't this thing done yet". That's what I felt like when I was covering the last one! |

OK, so this is an idea from "Fixed wing's" build thread. It's a balsa tube that's glued into the back of the fuse to run the elevator and rudder servo cables through. It's very light and keeps all those cables from floping around back there.
It's also very easy to make, find a very light and bendy 1/16 peice of balsa sheeting. Cut the width so it just wraps around a 3/4 tube. I used a 3/4 inch aluminum tube but anything would work, a broom handle, ect. Thoroughly wet down the sheeting with warm water and wrap it around the tube, I held it in place with a few rubber bands and some tape. Let it dry, I just put it on top of a base board heater and it was dry in about 20 minutes. Once it's dry it holds it's shape pretty good but to make gluing the joint a little easier I found a slightly larger peice of tubing, I had some 7/8 lying around. Slide the balsa tube into the larger tube, this helps hold the balsa while gluing the joint together with thin ZAP. Give the joint a light sanding and now you have an awesome , light balsa tube! I also made some little lite ply rings to toughen up the ends and a couple of lite ply mounting brackets to hold the tube in place. |
