I have done a lot of towing both full scale and models, my interest here is the electric starter on the 150 and am waiting for a reply on that question.

Troy built models has them. There totally awesome and work fantastic. I've heard it's a
starter off a Vespa scooter. I love it for Aero~Towing cause it makes a much safer invironment.
You dont have to go to the front of the plane. The starter hangs off the bottom of the motor
and you have a fly wheel behind the Prop.

I had a 3w 170 4cyl but unfortunatly lost it. The electric starter manufactured by Troy
built motors would work great on yours. Now I have it installed on a 160 twin ZDZ. It works out great for towing cause you just start it from your Tx. Happy Holidays!!!

Tow Line

I want to set up my Kadet Senior Sport as a tow plane. I have already order a two hook release to mount on it. What kind of line, how long, and where do I get it.

I use mason line from Home Depot, comes in neon colors.

Use a swivel link at either end, around 85 to 100 feet.

Wonder if someone can tell me what would cause the glider to sway back & fourth while trying to tow it up ? This is a Discuss glider , I think about 104 " wingspan, & my tow plane is a Horizon Hobby Taylor craft with a DLE-30 on it. Needless to say we crashed the glider but the T-craft is ok. He released from my plane as it was pulling my tail down while the glider was just out of control. I had the tow line looped around the wing tube which is right on the CG.
Thanks for any help !!
John

Slippery gliders need faster tugs.
T-craft would be better suited for slow gliders
I installed tow releases in a 100cc Extra 300 to tow my friends Discus. As my Pilatus Porter was to slow, making his end a real job. The Aerobatic Extra worked well (speed envelope). As Barracuda Hockey has mentioned.
My next purpose built Tug will be capable of a broad speed envelope.
Hope this helps

We are using about the same length tow line.
We add a Badminton birdy say a foot from the glider end. Adds drag, helping from line drop, and aids in a visual of tow release.

Thanks Snuts !! I was trying to go as slow as possible to lift him off, at least that's what we thought we should do & the glider went squirrely while it was still on the ground ! It seems & it got even worse in the air !! We're rebuilding it now as the tail broke off . I wonder if my Pitts would work better ? It has a DA-50 in it . We're also going to a 120 foot tow line & we use the Masons green line.
Also, we did a test first where I just pulled him on the ground & he got airborn & I cut my throttle & he landed ok. The glider lifted up nicely & stayed straight & landed pretty good. I am thinking of building a better tow plane next winter though.
Thanks again !!
John

Oh, we also are building a dolly, what do you think about that idea ? !!

If you can't run fast enough for a launch. Your Tug is definitely to slow. Yes cradles are used on bigger gliders. But this question tells me two different classes of airframes (airspeed).
As for your 50cc Pitts, same speed envelope as your T-craft.
Only my opinion.
Let me .M. you a link to another site.
(Andy is on there too).

-Snuts.

You don't need a longer line yet.

Hope this helps.

No P.M. privileges, or not set-up yet.
I hate to do this, but here is a link to R/C Aerotowing.
