Two gals. would last me three maybe four flying seasons here in Oh. and that is at 32:1 ratio.
And at 9.49 a bottle,thats 80.00 a gal. but over all your spending 120.00 for a case.
So for the least amount of money laid out, 80.00 shipped is the best price.
Never a dull moment here on FG when it comes to oil.LOL
Haha...but! I buy oil with a few flying buddies and we split the cost of that 2 gallons or more. Genius I am. LOL

I like to buy it in the 16oz bottles cause I mix 2-5 gal cans at a time, and to me it's just easier to stash a couple bottles in the trailer and pour one in each gas can to mix up at 40:1. Here in Alabama we're fortunate to be able to fly pretty much year-round. I typically burn 10 gallons every 8-10 weeks give or take a bit. So I guess it's just a convenience thing really..

I'm paying 10.99 a pint locally ($11.86 with sales tax). That's 5 gallons at 40:1. A case of 12 would last me longer than I would want it sitting around. Just have the one little plane right now. I'm just happy I can get a bottle anytime I need one within 10 minutes of the house.

Hey, at least we're still mostly on subject! Price was really my only consideration for changing brands as I had zero issues with the Stihl oil.

Compared to some of the local Stihl HP Ultra prices, most of the Red Line prices quoted in this thread are less than half the price! That is a major cost savings in my book. Even online, Stihl oil doesn't seem to offer the deep discounts that Red Line enjoys.

I got a screamin' deal on a gallon of HP Ultra a year ago; still quite a bit left. No problems with it, but another in our club burns RedLine, and it smells SO much better! I'll be switching to Redline just for that reason next time lol

OK, two reasons to switch ...... cheaper and it smells better! Sounds like valid reasoning to me!

Any votes for color?

Yes, I like the way my 3 extra bottles look on my shelf in the garage !! Those bottles don't look like other bottles of oil !! Very decorative !!

Yep, I never thought about going in on the buddy system.
I buy it by the gal. sense I fly the engines that wouldn't last long with less oil.

And less mess!! For me that is the big one.

Frankly on the color one downside to this oil, if there is such a thing, is that at 40:1 (the mix I use) it is a bit hard to see it for sure. You almost have to have pure gasoline next to it to see that it is in there. Not like some other oils that turn very distinct colors. You can tell the difference, but you have to look carefully.

I'm thinking of switching from Stihl HP Ultra to Red Line oil. My only reason for the switch is because I can buy Red Line at a local outlet far cheaper than what I can get the Stihl oil. I've had zero problems with Stihl and expect the same from Red Line.

My questions: Are there any known issues making this switch? Do the two oils mix well during the switch over? Any filter clogging issues? Any other issues?

Please don't make this an oil war.

Being in Iowa as well and frequenting areas same as you, where would I get Redline at? The HP has become hard to get here since the burning of a local business.

If you want a better smelling oil, then use ipone . It smells like strawberries.

I can and do often buy Hp Ultra at a local Stihl dealer since its very close to my house. Plus if you buy a stihl power tool, and some HP Ultra at the same time, Stihl extend the warranty for one extra year.

I have yet to find a local dealer of Redline Racing. Several stores carry other redline products, but no racing oil.

Dan, I see you lurking..know of any place around the PNW that stocks Redline?
I'm down to my last bottle and will happily run HP Ultra if I don't end up buying a gallon jug of Redline for the summer.
