I can assure you that I've fried several CDI module using unregulated 6 VDC batteries and decided to stick with the Manuafacturers recommendation...shoot they should know shouldn't they...they make 'em???

I have flown unregulated a123 and lifes on the rcexcel ever since they came out, i have yet to have one actually fail because of that (i had one fail due to the spark plug wire being cut from it rubbing on the cowl) and i mean 100s of flights. So i doubt that your batter caused it to fail on the first try unless it just came of the charger. I usually make sure mine are back to nominal before i fly...

Don't the "new" ignitions say 4.8 to 8.4 volts??

Yea, this one actually says "operating voltage 4.8 to 6.0v. and life." 7.4 lipos and higher require regulator.

so it's kinda grey on the 6v cause a 6v is more like 7 fully charged... But it makes me believe 4.8 to 6.0v rx pack can be used unregulated. Just look up a dle 20 and see specs, or the 20cc ignition from valley view, it has the same specs. After I posted origanaly, I did do some more looking and don't think I fried it. not with a half charged 6v nimh...

Got a new ignition from Valley View. Good people there. All is good. Runs good.

The ignition on my new DLE 35 was titz up from factory. VVRC sent me a new one and worked like a charm.
