It may fit, but it may be too much of a load for it to haul around.....lol

Look`n fantastic ! Will be keen to see how a DA 170 pulls it around ! Guess you discounted the DA200 already right ? Too heavy ? Really looking fwd to the end result. Great project.

They have taken the 200 into account of being an engine that people would use.

Re: Ultra Light 55% Extra 260

the plane was designed around the 170. this was done to show the world that the equipment used in the avg 42%'er could easily pull around a much larger airframe when designed properly. we DO have a motor box option for the 4cyl DA200. that is certainly a viable motor option as well.

the powerplant choices we believe will be great for this plane are as follows....

DA 170
Da 200
3W 170
3W 200/210 (twins)

many other 170-200cc twins will work i'm sure but we haven't made specific motorboxes for any others than those listed above.

using a bigger powerplant than what is mentioned above will adversely affect the CG, Balance, Weight, Safety and Performance of this airframe. there is NO need to use a powerplant outside of the 170-200cc range for this plane and we DO NOT suggest doing so.

the 170 on pipes will yank this baby around just fine! it'll be hard to believe until seen i know.... just you wait and see!

Re: Ultra Light 55% Extra 260

i'm sure that engine will work fine, i am not trying to leave out any available powerplant here... i am just saing that we have 3 different motor box designes for this plane... they encompass...

1- da/3w 170
2- da 200 4cyl
3- 3w 200/210 twins

we can certainly look at other power plants and the necessary mods for our customers on an individual basis in the future. my main point was that this plane should NOT be flown with a powerplant larger than the ones suggested above!

Awesome work on the cowling and canopy Bob! Your project is coming along very nicely.

Sorry if you have answered this before, when you are deciding on your weight goals and the powerplant necessary to fly the airplane are you crunching numbers to give you the answer? If not, are you basing your "assumptions" on experience and overall judgement of what does and does not need to be in the airplane? I would guess that you do a combination of both, but was curious how your thoughts flow from your head to the completed airframe.

Keep up the good work buddy!!

Its really a very nice or should I say incredible project!
A question from a new and very inspired viewer: In making the wings, rudder and elevator, which is lighter and stronger, foam covered with balsa like this on your project or balsa ribs?
