Re: Pilot-RC 30% Yak

Nice setup in there. lets us know how those 9150's work for you, and also be careful using those plastic horns on your rudder coupled to the composite piece Pilot gives you. the plastic on the inner horn can strip out due to flight loads. seen it happen....

Thanks heligrom. Are you talking about the plastic servo arm that the fiberglass horn is screwed to? I read several posts where this can strip out. Some people even had the aluminum MPI arms strip out. I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

Danny, something for you to check. I had to cross my pull pull cables to get them to exit the rear cut out correctly. Mine were rubbing on the rear most former.

Nice catch Johnie. I never noticed it because the elevator servos are in the way. I'll have to see if I have enough slack to cross the cables. Did you put one of the ball links on the underside of the horn to keep the cables from rubbing together?

I've seen guys use a piece of nylon/plastic push rod tube to isolate the two wires and prevent RF interference.

Re: Pilot-RC 30% Yak

I crossed the cables and installed one of the ball links on the underside of the horn. Seems to work OK and the cables don't touch. I had to unthread the ball links a few turns. I hope there is enough thread to not strip out. I finished up the exhaust canister installation. I used 7/16" silicone tubing but it wasn't big enough to hold the canister. The holes in the former are a lot bigger than the canister. I made a longer piece and kinked it so it would grab the canister. A little Shoe Goo holds it in place. I used an old tuned pipe header connector to extend the exhaust out the bottom of the cowl.

Exactly. i'd definitely check it after each flight or so. the torque from the servo and the pressure put on the surface in flight could cause failure. i would switch it over to an aluminum one as soon as possible just to be safe

I use SWB arms.... They have a split with a nut and bolt that tighten down on the servo pline.
They fit pretty d*mn tight to begin with.... almost don't need the nut and bolt. But then by snuging up the nut and bolt it gives a little extra insurance.

Re: Pilot-RC 30% Yak

WOOHOO!!! Maiden complete! 6 flights no crash! This plane is schweeeeet! The DLE-55 is plenty of power for this beast. Landings are a dream. It'll float in for a perfect 3 pointer no problems. I'm still not good enough to hover, close to the ground at least, but it seemed to hang on the prop just fine at 200 feet .

Only a couple of minor problems. I lost the wire that connects the rudder to the tail wheel. I got a minor leak at the header/canister connector. Blew a lot of black oil into the canister tunnel. I only had trim on one aileron and elevator surface. After I got home and read the DX7 manual I realized I needed to use mixes 5 and 6 to get the trim settings to carry over to the other surface. DOH! Here's some pics. If I get time tonight I'll post some video.

Here's the video. Didn't have time to title it, I'm traveling out of the country for a week in about an hour. Nothing fancy and hopefully not too boring..
