Good thread I have one of these kits to build as well. I was very surprised to see the kit didn't come with any of the sheeting/balsa however.

The three extras from the XFC Raffle where Short kits which did not include the sheeting balsa.

The newest version of the 3.1m Extra 300CS which you see here in this thread is a full kit which does include the sheeting, balsa stringers, Carbon fiber wingtube, Carbon tail tube, Carbon wheel pants, and Carbon Gear.

Jerry - you using standard wood glue for the build? Is there much laser burn to clean up before gluing? I remember building an old ******** kit, and spending hours just cleaning the laser burn off the parts so the glue would stick....

What are the differences between the 3.1 and 3.2 models (besides wingspan)? Are there significant differences in the fuselage (other than perhaps length)? I was thinking that for my next build (which will have to wait till I return to the US) I'd like to build one fuse, but 2 sets of wings (one IMAC and one 3D) and two sets of stabs (IMAC and 3D). That way, you build and set up each for it's respective duty and then just swap them out when you want to change your flying.

The CS wings are different, and the fuse is longer.... Jerry can tell you all the other changes... but it is very different.

Pete... two sets of wings and two sets of stabs? So, why not build a second fuse, then you have two full planes?

The 3.1m CS and the 3.2m are actually very different as Matt mentioned. The 3.2m is basically just like the ARF version we offered just now in kit form where the 3.1m CS is pretty much a completely new design.

Here are some of the specs for the two of them

3.1m Extra 300CS

Wingspan 123"
Length: 119"
Wing area 2725

3.2m Extra 300

Wingspan 126"
Length: 110"
Wing area 2805

It is actually hard to explain all the differences between the two because there are just so many, the 3.1m is actually a totally new design. The fuselage shapes are completely different, airfoils are different. The 3.1m includes all the carbon goodies where the 3.2m comes standard with aluminum. Besides the carbon vs. aluminum part there are some differences between the two which will make the 3.1m lighter then the 3.2m.

Things like aileron and elevator sizes are based off the same dimensions but realistically you are cutting the them out so you can adjust to make the surface larger if you choose.

Because:
* Cheaper - only one motor (if you're talking 200 it's some bux!), one powerbox, one set batts/switches etc, and a couple less servos.
* Easier - only one plane (plus extra wings/stabs) to haul to the field.
* Less work - for me, the hardest part of the build is the paint (hate painting...). So building extra wings/stabs is easy; don't have to deal with hatch/cowl/pants.

If you want two sets of wings and two sets of stabs, we'll be happy to cut them for you. ANYTHING you want!! not a problem. Foam is easy to cut!!

The Flu is going around our house, so not a lot has gone into the build.

I did get out and put the other wing in the bag. I used two cases of oil as weights just to hold the wing flat to the table while the vacuume pulls it together.

Question- Is the motor box and landing gear plate light ply or aircraft ply and how thick?

Nice job on the build- looks quick and clean!!

The Motor Box is 1/8 Birch Ply. The landing gear attaches to an aluminum angle, but I added a 1/4 aircraft ply below so I could use blind nuts.

So then looking at the picture I presume the gear is two piece and is inserted above the plywood plate and the bolts go in from the pipe tunnel?
