Question
Seagull Edge 540 60 size

Hello,
I have a Seagull Edge 540 .60 size that I'm going to start working on soon. Just looking for some input for an engine for this palne. I would like to get into gas engines, I thought about going with a DLE 20. Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Thanks,
Patrick

The 20 would be good. Seagull models build heavy. I flew one of someone elses once with a Saito 100 and it was a pooch. The 20 would be a blast.

I have one with a Zenoah 20cc and a tunned pipe and header. I call it frankenstein because I have fix it several times not from a crash but things that have come loose or broken due to over stress. It hangs by the prop but it don't comes out of the hover. I put the Zenoah because I already had it. As soon I damage that engine (hopefully soon) i will slam a DLE 20 on it. To get rid of the Zenoah i'm using it 50:1 and as lean I can run it

I had one with an O.S. 120 on it. I had to take the covering off of the bottom to mount the battery back far enough to get the C.G. It came in at 9 pounds. It was a rocket, nice flying plane. Just make sure you Iron down all the covering.

Hope yours lasts longer than mine did. First flight out even before adjusting the trims the stab collapsed down on the fuselage. Wood quality was dreadful. After a re build and several flights later the fin came off, separated from the rest of the fuse.

Which one??? The Phoenix or Seagull one??? The Phoenix one in the video is still flying strong today.

Patrick, I and 2 other friends are flying the same combo. All I can say is fantastic. works very well. Just make sure you reinforce the firewall properly. Nitro models are not made to withstand the vibrations of a gasser. I am using a 16x8 3 blade MAS but others are using a 17x6 APC prop. The u/c may seem a tad weak - I am using that of my bygone seagull extra 260 90 which is thicker.

Saw a guy flying one with an Evolution 1.20 and it needed more power. I was thinking of the same plane with a DLE 20 in it and I've heard from others that it's a great combo. The plane itself was built well, a little heavy but not bad overall, especially when you consider the price.
