Dunno who that is, sorry. Just something I came up with after fighting with this for about the last 4 years! (ugh!)

I was actually driving down the road and working my thumbs while driving that the cadence idea hit me. Now I just practice it while driving wherever I go.

Helps!

Ok. I just watched a YouTube of Joe Smith.

If you'd of said "must have been talking to Gawd" I'd of gotten it. . .

One hell of a pilot. Very cool.

Yes he is. He has a geat story to tell about his method of learning the rollers. That's why I asked if you had talked to him because it's similar to your story...

OK you guys look silly doing this at work .
Test two says I only have 10 seconds to be a master pilot.

Thanks a lot this really helped me straighten up my rolling harriers. I also found out I had a deficiency in rolling circuits and mistimed the elevator a lot. I went back and practiced them until I was satisfied and wham! Just like that rolling harriers felt so natural.

Now a days I've been rolling on the sim for many hours a day and I'm getting to the point where I can do some real low down huckin' around the whole stage for at least 5 mins or until my hand gets tired

Thanks again!

looking for multiple responses here, i would like to know from everyone their preferred inputs for this.

equal elevator / rudder inputs
hard elevator / less rudder
hard rudder / less elevator.

i realise it will change depending on directional control and whatever is required to raise the nose at any given time, but just looking for what guys concentrate on the most. I have been through both and cant decide which works best......

or does it work either way, depends on personal flying style???

whatever the plane needs... some planes have more side area and rudder authority than others, etc. but it's pigeon holes for something that shouldn't really have pigeon holes... anything more or less than the plane needs that is compensated on the other surface will end up with a roller that's not as smooth as it could be. it's also joined to what you do with your throttle, if you're pulsing, when you're pulsing, etc...

...an ultra smooth roller is simply the result of giving the plane what it needs for the given attitude...

The rule of thumb I go by is to use the rudder to maintain pitch attitude, and the elevators for directional changes. Of course, the more comfortable you are with rolling the easier it is to use both for both.

Usually rudder > elevator. By how much? It depends... I sim a lot so I usually have the luxury of closely watching the plane while paying attention to my fingers. I concentrate on elevator the most since it has the most authority in direction changing, so I have to make sure my timing is just right and consistent.

Oh definetly, It totally makes sense. It did help me to realize WHY I was doing so. When Im flying however, I just cant think. Thats when crap happens for me.
