DA starts easier, they both have the same survice, zdz runs a little more powerfully and transisions a little better.

The proof is in the pudding --guess in one hand and------in the other
BTW I just got a new prop to try on my ZDZ50 -a ZM 23x12 with rather fancy UP twisted tips -I am guessing they are to reduce tip spill of the air - we will soon find out. The high pitch number - -I am sure will not be reflected in doggy performance -there is a lot of flattening at the tip--- all in all a very different blade shape It isn't cheap but looks extremely well made

23x12 on a 50?

That's a ton of prop! I don't think I could run that on my Brison 4.2, not and keep the rev's up, probably down in the 5000's.

Re: ZDZ 50 or DA 50?

I used a 23 - 8 on my ZDZ 50and it dogged it out.
So personally I think a 23 - 12 will spin up slowly, and really provide negative performance.
I tried a NX and a Bolly both 23 - 8 neither was good, lost like 15% - 20% vertical.
The ZDZ 50 (well Mine at least) like 22" props.

BUT.. only way to know for sure is to try it! Let us know if it works!
Good luck!

The prop is numbered 23x12 - My eye says - it is -not the same as the clubby things numbered the same way-- my piped 50 runs 23x8 at 7200 static -so I wil just see what happens - it may be off the best pipe relationship.

They call it a 50NG for "new generation". From what I understand a light and strong motor.

Re: ZDZ 50 or DA 50?

I have the ZDZ 40RV and it just keeps getting stronger after 2 seasons! It is now turning a 22X8 NX prop around 6100 rpm on high octane fuel and Amsoil 50:1 synthetic. I love it so much I now have the ZDZ 100NG that will be powering an Edge 540 that I scratched based on the old Lanier 33%. That should do it
I think both engines are excellent, but I like the rotary valve setup on the ZDZs. Faster throttle response and no midrange sag that I've seen on some DAs. 'Course it could be just inexperience with setup or not fully broken in engines.
I think the ZDZ is more robust too
