Just ordered my Pro Flows on Thursday! Ordered the medium, front-dump for my shiny new DA-120 that will be installed in the NEW PAU 100cc Ultimate!
This is my first time using cans and I have a question about venting/cooling. The PAU Ultimate has a can tunnel that will be completely closed to the rest of the fuse, except for the opening in the front of it. With the front-dump cans (exhaust exiting in front of the firewall in a cutout on the bottom of the cowl), do I need to cut some louvers/vents in the bottom of the fuse in the tunnel area for airflow/venting of heat? With stock mufflers on my DA's, I usually cut out the whole semi-circle on the bottom of my cowls. If I do have to put vents in the bottom of the can tunnel, can I get away with just cutting out two small circles in the cowl bottom to allow for the two exhaust outlets? I am thinking this way, the air will flow much better all the way through the tunnel and exit out the bottom of the fuse. If I cut the usual, large semi-circle out of the cowl, the air may want to exit there, instead of flowing back to the cans in the tunnel. I have attached some pitures of the Ultimate cowl for reference, keep in mind on my install (using the DA-120) I will only be cutting out the front two openings in the cowl (not needing to cut the hole for the head of the DA-85 as shown in the pics). Thanks for any advice/input You experts may be able to provide!! |

Honestly though astro, id cut open one of the bays in the tunnel, not much, just enough to get air to pass. The can really only gets hot to the touch it doesnt need a ton of cooling by itself, but it should have some. Then you can do a front dump nice and clean and just have the stingers poking out the cowl. Theres an AJ slick like that somewhere on the site, lemme see if i can find it
Edit: found it. This guy has little slots cut in the tunnel for can cooling. And the stinger comes out just before the cowl, and its a single cylinder. You could do the same thing with two cans, and depending on where it ends up, have them exiting the cowl or just through a the bottom of the tunnel like out friend down at the bottom of this post. You can get crazy and do slits, or just cut a bay or a few inches of covering off, and it will do the trick just fine. |

Hi Luke, I know on the big Edge you need 90mm Drop but I cant say on the 37%. Very popular combo and I;m sure someone will chime in here with an answer. Thats an awesome plane to fly.

Fired up the engine. Got a vod, but it won't upload, ill work on that.
Dle 55 and vess 23a Idle rmp: 2400 (good?) WOT rpm: 6950-7120 (good?) Good transition, no burble or anything. Needles are a touch rich of 1.25 on low, and 1.5 on the high. Noise is more than I expected by a lot, but I guess I just will have to learn that gas is like that haha. Overall I'm pleased. Only complaint is noise, but that's not a big deal. Other than that 10/10. Thanks dave! I still have white smoke coming from the wrapped portion of the header, not sure what's up with that. One time, it was billowing out. It happens after a hot long run right after shut down. Lasts a minute or two. I'm not that concerned though. |

The smoke from the flex is normal and will stop after a few flights(I think the plumbers tape melts a bit...it also leaks until the carbon builds up to make a seal) Lower your idle a few clicks...I lower mine until it won't roll on pavement rather than using a tach because there are too many variables. You should be able to spin that prop over 7000 consistantly...If not then you may be a bit rich. I usually lean the high end to max steady rpm an then back of just a tiny bit no more than a screwdriver blade. On the other hand if you are getting high rpm at full throttle then after a few seconds it starts to slow down then you are lean. Looking at a tach it should hit a number and stay there when properly tuned. |

Seriously though, got 1 1/2 gallons of gas and 1 gallon of smoke oil burned up today. I mixed the throttle to the pump and sill made enough smoke that the valley was full about 5 minutes after I laneded Fiji smoke tank lasts almost exactly a full 10 minute flight.....I'm impressed to get this much smoke from a canister muffler! Best part, a couple of wipes with a microfiber towel and it was clean |
