A123 voltage under load

I purchased a 2 cell A123 systems 2300mah battery to use on a 30cc airplane. I plan on using it to run both the control surfaces and rudder with an ultra ibec. I cycled it a couple of times with my charger and noticed while discharging the voltage would drop to 6.2 volts with a 4 amp load. Is this normal? I was able to get 2000-2100 mah out before the voltage dropped below 6 volts. Thanks for any info you can give.

That is what they do.. Immediatly drop to just over 6 volts under load .. You dont need the ibec.. Just something to fail on you.

Thank you for the speedy response. Glad to know that is normal. Why do you say I don't need the ibec? I don't want to use a separate ignition battery on a model this small and I have to have an electronic kill switch at my field. Is there any other way?

that works fine bbagle1, I set my 30 cc up with a diode to the ignition, installed a optokill switch after the diode. (older dle ignition does not like over 5.5 volts) have two leads running off the batt one deans to plug into the sf super switch for the rx, and a jr plug for the ignition switch. then the diode then the optokill. lots of flights now and it works good, good enuf i am gonna do the same to my 50 cc and drop the extra batt i have in there for ignition.

Just my 2 cents, but I have IBEC's on all my gassers. The IBEC I use has current limiting, so if the ignition shorts out you're protected. I like having two methods of killing the engine from the radio, traditional throttle cut and ignition kill.

Ignition battery eliminator and remote motor kill. It pulls power from the receiver and lowers the voltage to acceptable levels for the ignition. And you can assign a switch to the receiver channel and have a remote kill. Kind of like OPTI KILLS. at least the kill part.

Saves the weight of a battery and gives you ignition power redundancy if you run dual receiver packs.

OK. You're missing it. You typed IEBC instead of IBEC. He's calling you on a typo.
