Plane restrant at the field

O.K. guys! Show them to me. Looking for ideas for permanant plane restrants to install at our local field. I would like to see any and all. I have seen some of the fold down styles, and also have seen some simple poles with padding. Thanks

Our club up here in the SOCAL High Desert, www.VVRCF.org made us a really nice Giant Plane start up pad with removable padded poles. This is the best way to start a big plane without having to worry about your plane holding bud doing a face plant/crunching your plane as he steps away

We have pipes driven into the ground and removable padded pipes that slide into them. The padded pipes are stored in racks along the fence line when not in use. Since the receiving pipes are flush with the ground you can mow right over them. You can make them any size or spacing you like. This spring we plan to add more. We need some larger diameter, taller and wider space ones to use on the wings of 150 and above planes.

Our field is a landfill and we can't penetrate the ground. Does anyone have a good idea for that type of situation?

Mass and/or area are your only options. Concrete slab or steel plate. One of the prefab 2'x4'x3" slabs should be enough and isn't too hard to man-handle around. Depending on what your land fill rules are you could make an area anchor with steel fencing under a few inches of soil or sod.

Once you have the "anchor" part, all of the restraint ideas above are good and can be fitted to the anchor.

Maybe perhaps building a big plane starting pad out of 2x4's and 3/4" plywood with some small ramps,,, or a concrete slab.

I was thinking something like a slab with some uprights. Landfills are tough, you really can't even tie your pop up down with those little stakes. Everything we have just rests on the ground. We did manage to put up a nice fence made out of 1.5" PVC pipe resting in those triangular deck blocks that you find in Home Depot. We used ornge plastic chain and it looks and holds up real well.

flying from an ex-landfill stinks.

the first field I ever flew from was that exact situation. we just used each other's feet/arms and hoped for the best. the field worked for a few years until either the top fill started to sink or the garbage started to work its way up. either way we ended up with old tires, plastic, and other debris popping up in random places on the field and runway. around that same time we noticed that some of the plants started growing really odd looking fruit. there was a cucumber plant that was growing wild out there from someones ex salad I presume.. it started to grow cucumbers that were round and hard like baseballs. we stopped flying there.

All are good, but the OS GT-33 sometimes starts in reverse.
