DLE 55-RA mufflers
I was reading on another site were the owners of the 55-ra are having problems with the muffers breaking apart after just a few flights. It doesn't seem that DLE is doing anthing about modifing the muffler, I think they will send you a new one on warranty but that isn't fixing the problem. If I would of seen this post earlier I would of just bought the side exhaust and the after market muffler.(same price as the ra) I'm a strong believer in JB Weld so I'm going to try and beef up this muffler before I run it. Has anyone ever tried JB Weld on aluminum? Can't hurt to try seeing how DLE hasn't come up with a solution that I'm aware of.

Several guys in our club have repaired exhausts with JB.
Some worked and some not. Mostly not. Or not for long. It seems that excess vibration will shake anything apart in some installations. Have you thought of doing an aftermarket can or tuned pipe? Better silencing, power, and maybe life out of the exhaust, although exhaust life seems to be an issue no matter what. ...just thinking out loud... |

I sure wasn't expecting to have to buy an after market muffler. I still think DLE should be addressing the issue, but doesn't sound like they will. Maybe need more complaints. I'm not even sure what compnay is making an aftermarket muffler.

Where is it breaking? Can you take a picture and post it? Are they rupturing at the welds? Or are they cracking after the exhaust flange? If from the exhaust flange, then maybe they need a support bracket, kinda like the type of bracket for a Slimline pitts muffler?

Mine hasn't been used yet but from the pics from another site they all seem to be breaking in the same place. The mounting flange is breaking right out of the muffler. One member, from that site , even had the short exhaust tube break off. I had a closer look at my muffler and the joins are fused together rather than welded.
