I saw Gabby doing these at Wenatchee this summer, and I heard them referred to as "Rifle Rolls". I fully intend to get good at those!!!

you are correct, I tried it with left roll at full throttle and the rolling speed is as slow as right roll. I've modified my post. Thanks for the correction.

I have noticed that what you said is true ON SOME airplanes, but in a high-alpha setting. Not at high speeds.
ya, my hariier left roll is faster or more predictable than right roll. That I believe is causing by the torque.

could you tell me more about this blowback from the aileron servos? Thanks!

me 2

I've spent couple flights on it, getting better but still doing it at high altitude. I need to play with the expo a bit to get it right.

Hi Jack, sure. It means that your servos probably have the necessary torque to fly the plane and deflect the aileron at medium speeds, but at high speeds, the torque isn't enough to keep the aileron fully deflected, this is what's called blow-back. To fix this, you might want to use stronger servos, or see if you can get more torque out of the servo by going to a shorter servo arm, while still having the same throw as before by going in on the control horn on the ailerons. Makes sense?

Vic
ahh, that make perfectly sense Vic!!
Now think about it, whenever I start rolling first and then increase the throttle gradually then it roll faster and faster.

However if I go full throttle first then start rolling then it slow like an egg roll because my servos don't seem to have the power to overcome the high velocity wind.

btw, my plane is 3DHS 72" Extra 330SC with DLE30 , plenty of power for a lightweight setup. Full throttle is scary fast most of the time, probably need a better servo to keep up with it.

Now think about it more, everytime when I do snap at full throttle, the snap is like half second delay.... Now I finally know why !! Thanks for the helpful input.

Yes, not enough torque will also delay snap departure. Glad I could help. If you could get a 300 ounce servo on those ailerons that would work perfect.

300 oz !!?! I look it up and it looks like only HiTec HS-TG7955 can get 333 oz at 6.6Volt
http://www.hitecrcd.com/products/dig...hs-7955tg.html

right now I am running the recommend HS-7985MG with 172 oz torque at 6.6v. Will shorten the servo arm tomorrow and see if it helps.

even higher and quicker on a 2S lipo..

I cant belive your seeing blow back, on that light of a plane with that servo setup..

MFG torque specs are rated from a 1" servo arm any more than that it drops
