Does anyone have pics of a battery tray they have built and installed behind the wing tube?

I picked up a 3.1 MM Sukhoi but I have to finish up on a 40% float project.

Here's my tray; just put in a couple of hardwood bearers and then a lite ply plate for the batts.

Same kind of idea I was going to try with mine except I will have to see if I can get away with moving mine back one more bay as my Smartfly board sits there.

How big of a cutout have you guys done on the bottom of cowl to accomodate the hot air leaving the cowl? Just the bottom of the oil cooler? Pics?

Cowl Venting

I don't know whether it is actually needed or not but I tend to do this on all my planes. Bend sections of very thin aluminum sheet at about 75 degrees. 1/2 inch to secure inside the cowl and 3/4 inch to 1 inch to extend out side. I then open of the cowl to get as much venting as I can underneath..... in this case 2 openings in the "cooler" section and an additional air dam at the back where it is already open. Typically I put a little JB Weld on the inside flange and then but a couple of rivits or button head 4-40 screws and nuts to hold it all together. Never have had one come loose and the airdams or louvers provide the needed negative air pressure to improve the efficiency of the exit air. This aircraft has RE3's and has 2 openings on the belly as would be typical...... not sure it is needed I just always do it and it is very light. If I were running mufflers and no fuselage openings I would think it would be a have to.

What I did was remove all the covering from the tunnel vents. Then I cut little pieces of 1/32" ply to make a louver for each one to suck the air out. The only cutting I did on the cowl was for the exhaust pipes. Works great and the engine stays cool.
