Very cool. And no wrinkled covering to contend with.

It possible that this is a new composite airframe vendor for them. Seems Hangar 9 planes are made in several different factories by different vendors.
I would not disagree with that. Would be nice to have a Horizon rep pipe in on this??

I would think you would have to baby sit these plants to do what they are doing to keep quality. If this is true the less plants you have the better. Whatever it is they seam to be doing it better than everyone else. Keep up the good work!

What I find strange, are the bevel cut hinges on the elevators and ailerons.

All surfaces are center hinged and not bevel cut. This is not a squeaky airplane.

Why did they not use pocket hinges on the ailerons and elevators? Look at the pictures.

I really like it. But, I think they really missed the boat on this one, WS of only 102? Really! With all the other manufacturers finally going big. I have a very old compy that is like 102. Should of followed the new trend of much lighter and larger.

Regarding hinges...they are center hinged, may be bevel cut on the ailerons. I'd try to get you some more photos if I was in Champaign. In Heathrow waiting for my Nuremberg connection at the moment.

The control surfaces are center hinged, but not pocket hinged. In the pics, you can see that the surfaces are beveled and hinged like most wooden airframes are. Interesting that they didn't go with pocket hinges, which is what most composite planes (CARF, Krill) use.

I'm wondering if the manufacturing was subbed to CARF or Krill (or one of their competitors). It would take a lot for a factory that is producing wooden airplanes to retool their line and start doing composite. If they spend the money to retool, it would only be for a whole line of composite planes, not just a single model.

As far as the seam, there has to be one somewhere. Perhaps it was dressed for the photo shoot on the prototype.

Pete

I understand what you are saying, but have you ever flown a QQ Yak before?

My goodness!!! Is this for real?!

Congratulations to Quique and Hangar 9 team for such awesome product. QQ-Yak 54 design has always had a special place in my heart. It’s the plane I learned both 3D and precision on (as little as I know). I started with his 85” Yak and then improved my skills on his 102”. I flew the 102” for so many years without being tired of it that my friends at the field would pick on me. I kept telling them if the plane is more capable than my skill, why should I change? I still have a couple of QQ-Yak 54 including his 120”. One thing that I thought QQ designed Yak was superior to anything else that I ever flew was the fact with a flip of a rate switch, I could have a precision flying plane or a 3D monster. One switch!

Did I say, I absolutely LOVE QQ designed Yak-54?

I can’t wait to have one of these, a new designed 2.6 composite QQ yak, I'm thrilled!!

I will have to do a build/assembly thread on this.

Just when I thought Quique sold his soul to foam and Jets and got out of anything that was bigger than micro size LOL (being sarcastic here, not to take anything away from the good he has been doing with HH) Hangar 9 drops the bomb! I think if we don’t put in an order today, we won’t get our hands on one.
I’m in….haven’t been excited this much for long, THANK YOU….

No, I have not flown any of his planes. Looks like I never will. I was really interested til I saw the extremely small size. Remember, It's a yak! 102 is an old extra size plane. I'm worried that it will be overweight and undersized! This thing will weigh as much as a EF yak that has a 110 WS.
