Xoar Props

For a Gas application which Xoar prop is best for use, the Type A Beechwood or the Type A Laminated?
Then there is the 3D with both construction options as well.

The laminated is best. Almost as good as CF for less money.

I'm running the 23A 3D laminated and I really like it, struggling with switching to Vess because I do.

+1 on the laminated.

Also, the hubs don't compress as easily as some of the plain Beechwood props. Some of the Beech props seem to have very soft wood .... some quite hard. You never know what you'll get where the laminated ones are much more consistent. The laminated props are not quite as durable on the tips though and I have damaged them while moving the plane around in the house, vehicle, trailer, etc. But then you should be careful with any prop.

Not to get the thread of track, but how does the laminated Xoar props load down an engine compared to a similar size Menz? Does it spin faster, the same or slower on the same engine?
Thanks

Size for size, I've found the Xoar props load the engine slightly more than a Menz. But then, Menz props have a slightly smaller diameter than what is marked.

Menz has a power factor of 1.31, whilst Xoar has a PF of 1.4.
Menz uses "carpenter's thumbs" of 25mm instead of inches of 25.4mm. This however does not account for the PF difference. Recalculated to true diameter, the Xoar still loads the engine slightly more.

Thanks Truckracer.

I´m used to running Menz props on my G-62´s, but for a future project I need a laminated prop, and the Xoar looked correct.
The Menz 24x10 usually does around 6K, depending on exhaust, and I wanted to make sure that a similar size Xoar did not strangle the engine completely.

Hi Pe.

I did notice the PF in your spreadsheet, which I use a lot by the way, but I was not sure if it also applied to the laminated Xoar. Thanks for clarifying it.

The design of laminated is the same as for non-lam props. It is the design that determines the load factor. Of course the gyroscopic loads and acceleration loads become larger if prop weight increases.
