not sure of max rpms but the pilot sbach is about 12.8 lbs AUW and it hauls it around with authority.

I'm sure it would fly a 16# plane but dont know what it would do as far as pull out from a hover with that kind of extra weight..

If this engine will spin a 20*6 or 20*10 prop as some state, it will be lighter than an old type Quadra 42 with equal power and that will haul a 16# plane just fine. Don't plan to do much hovering so that is not a first requirement.

If you are not planning on any 3D then i think you will be most pleased with the performance of this engine.

Mine will spin a 20x8 zinger @ 6900 And spin a 20x10 @ 6500 . This is a great combo on the Bill Hempel 50cc cub.

To the guy asking for owners to chime in, I have two of these, the first one I got was one of the first o es to hit the states. The muffler cracked on it and mike from ibcinyourc.com took care of it for me. He was in contact with pte and the next batch had an improved muffler. The new mufflers are fine, no problems out of either engine and have about 7-10 gallons through each of them with hard 3d flights. One has a Xoar 19-6 and the other has a falcon 19-6. Don't remember exact rpm but I do know that they turn the same prop 1100rpm more than my dle 30 and have WAY more power.

At 16 lbs. would be awesome 50cc 3D performance and, scale sport flying for the 36. IMO...

Anyone have a used one they want to sell? I just scored a sweet deal on a NIB 70 AJ Slick (fantasy blue). This engine is the front runner right now on my list.

I ran mine for the 1st time yesterday swinging an 18X10 Xoar. Didn't tach the prop but initial starting was very easy with near instantaneous throttle response. Minor tuning of the needles once things warmed up. Solid engine!

I just ordered one of these from TBM for my Aeroworks Bravata. Cost was $298 w/free shipping.

TBM is currently offering an additional 1 year on top of the factory warranty.

I just put one in my 25% Hempel L-4. Maiden should be in a week. I'll post my opinion. I will say that a friend flys one in a Pitts and other than having issues with the version 1 exhaust it's been a very reliable engine for him.

For those of you flying with the PTE-36R, how has this engine been performing and holding up for you? Anything new to add other than what's already been posted in this thread.

I just purchased one for a 30cc Yak 54 I'm putting together right now. The airframe wasn't really designed for a rear exhaust engine; if I use the stock engine stand-offs the front of the prop hub is an additional 12 to 15 mm to far forward in front of the cowl. Once I mount the engine permanently I have some 55mm stand-offs that will put the prop hub where I like it.

Took me about an hour to get it running the first time but now it will "pop" with the choke after 5 to 6 flips and then start in two or three flips after I open the choke. This engine seems to like a couple of clicks of throttle to start and run. Haven't tuned it yet (for sure both needles are rich) and will make those adjustments before the first flight.

After 1 year and flying the pte36r every weekend, (hard) I still say its a great engine. Would buy another one in a heartbeat. And I would buy it from mike at ibcinyourc. Great customer service, great guy.

+1 on Mike's service.

n2201y did you notice excessive vibration on yours at first? I feel like mine vibrates a lot but it is my first gasser so I'm not sure if I am overly sensitive to it. The vibration toned down quite a bit with an rc exl ignition stolen from my buddy's DLE 55. I can get it to go away. I told that to Mike at ibcinyourc.com and he sent me out an rc exl ignition after only a few questions. The only problem is... I can't get it to run with the RC exl ignition he sent me...

Here is a vid of the plane running in my front yard tied to a tree. It also has me trying to start it with the RC exl ignition. There are two clips one right after the other. The engine was already warm and primed from the first clip when I demonstrated it NOT starting with the new ignition.

I went ahead and maidened the 70" AJ Slick yesterday with the stock ignition that came with it. As you can see it had no problem having enough power

3dhs 70" slick maiden flight (3 min 32 sec)
