Pilot 100cc Edge 540. Tips/advice?

Getting ready to start building a Pilot 100cc Edge 540. Wondering if any of you fellow pilots have built one and had any tips or advice. Shipment should be here the 16th so I haven't seen the plane or read the manual. So any tips/advice are appreciated. Thank You, Howard

Yup, The Pilot Edge 540 37% flew awesome with a DA100L on TD75 cans and a vess 27B

With regards to assembling your kit, make sure you have a good set of clamps, squares and fresh 30 minute or longer Epoxy.

The firewalls do not come pre installed so you will have to do that yourself. Not a big deal, but you do want to make sure you get it aligned properly.

Also make sure you create a baffling for the engine. Its not hard to do, but it can take a few hours to get it all created/cut, glued and trued. I used the TLAR method along with some thin and med CA, as well as some gorilla glue to expand in the gaps between the wood and the cowling. I used 1/16 plywood from the local hobby shop, and just used sissors to get the basic shape cut out. I also used a dremel with sanding drum and a cut off wheel for some fine tuning of the baffling.

I think I took some pics of my assembly and will post them if I have them.

Great flight! Looks like a tough airframe and can handle some high speed G's

This has got to be Pilots toughest airframe, I have almost every one of Pilots 40% airframes and the Edge has held up the best. Watching some of the videos that the hard core 3D guys put these things through proves they can take most anything the average pilot can come up with.

Cryhavoc38,
Is there any way you can email me pics of your baffling? I've never had to do this before and a few pics would help greatly ! Much thanks ! Howard email- hharris8898@yahoo.com

hharris8898, look at this page and you can get an idea how DUNK did his. You can also do a lighter baffle with a strong foam that they carry at craft stores.

to be honest, I didn't take a bunch of pics of the creation of the baffling, but I can see what I have when I get home.

I pretty much hand craft a box for each side, and use triangle stock, glued to the inside of the cowl, where I want the box to fit into. Then sand or trim everything to not touch the cylinders...Takes some time but I do like the results. I also paint the baffle flat black with some rc car lexan paint.

The gorilla glue is used to expand any gaps that might be around the inside sides..makes a real strong fitment and I've never had a baffle come unglued or loose inside the cowl.

Standby..I'll see what pics I have for the 42% raven and the 37% Pilot Edge.

EDIT: I did mine very similar to what DUNK did for his.
I didn't use carbon fiber trim for the inside, but that looks pretty cool!

By the way, some have just used thin balsa sheeting to close the lower cowling gap from the inlet to the cylinders. ANything at all will help direct as much air as possible through the fins, versus shooting down through the cowl to the exit holes.

That reminds me, don't be afraid to use a dremel with a small sanding drum to create some vent slats in the lower section of your cowling.
